Alternate Forms/Reports unchecked after import

I had a situation this morning that I have seen before after an upgrade. Sometimes you will see the GL Trial Balance Report cutting off parts of the account number. The usual fix is to export all reports to a package file and then rename or delete REPORTS.DIC and import the reports back in.Sometimes however what happens unexpectedly is that under Alternate Forms and Reports, reports that have been modified will become completely unchecked. In this case it was very bad because most of the posting journals were the reports that were modified so GP would crash right in the middle of posting. Why does this happen? Is there something that happens when you launch GP and the REPORTS.DIC is not there? I would think that running Security Reconcile would be how to uncheck those reports.

    Hi Richard,

I don't know your exact situation, but if you have a modified report which is stored in your REPORTS.dic and you assign the users' security under Alternate/Modified forms to this report, the (modified) version.  Then you remove that REPORTS.dic so the user no longer has access to it, then it will display as no report is marked under security and the user would receive errors when they try to print the report that no longer exists for them.  Once the Report is added back into the REPORTS.dic then the issue would go away.

    Thanks,

That is what I want to happen but does not. I export the reports, delete the REPORTS.DIC file and immediately import the reports back in via the package file. Under Alternate Forms/Reports, the report is now completely unchecked. Neither the primary or secondary copy is checked.

    Hi Richard,

If you try to assign the canned GP report after deleting the REPORTS.DIC, does the standard report print fine for the user(s)? I would try that first, then see if you can re-import the one specific report, set security to the modified report and then try to print it.

No they did not and even reconciling security did not help. Out of the 20 modified reports three of the reports had no selections. I have seen this before and the fix is to check either version. Having nothing checked is what causes this issue.
