FA threshold -Business rules for fixed asset determination

Hi,

I went through the posting of https://community.dynamics.com/ax/f/33/t/201514

The threshold is defined at 500$

I have issued a PO, in the fixed assets tab marked 'new asset' , chose the asset group, the PO confirm, received, invoiced

I see that the asset got created with a book, and marked as acquired in FA module.

The threshold didn't have any effect.

Anything missing?

Thanks

Sam

    Hi Sam,

I'm not using this option daily, but I thought the first deprecation would take care of depreciating the full amount for this asset.

    Hello Sam,

Do you have the FA parameter 'consider capitalization threshold' turned on?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

Yes 'consider capitalization threshold' is already on.  Anything else to check?

    Thanks

    Hello Sam,

I double checked that in my demo system and would say that everything works as in the previous AX versions.

That is, for fixed assets that are below the threshold, the 'calculate depreciation' parameter in your fixed asset book should be turned off.

For fixed assets that are above the threshold, the 'calculate depreciation' parameter in your fixed asset book should be turned on.

That's the whole effect of that parameter and it is working fine in my test environment.

Can you double check that in your system?

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

I am getting to the stage of "fixed assets that are above the threshold, the 'calculate depreciation' parameter in the fixed asset book should be turned on"

However I like better the option below mentioned in the posting of community.dynamics.com/.../201514

    "

    4) If the amount you enter in your purchase requisition is above the threshold defined under no 1) then you can identify the fixed asset group that is related to the procurement category in the fixed asset tab of the procurment category details window. If it is below you cannot identify a fixed asset group reference there."

I would prefer that the user will not be able to choose a fixed assets group on the PO if the value is below the threshold.I have setup the "Business rules for fixed assets determination" but I am not getting D365 to disable "FA group " field in the PO if the value is below the threshold.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Sam

    Hello Sam,

I think we did not talk about the same thing here.

    - The capitalization threshold amount that you define at the FA group level only ensures that the depreciation parameter is turned on or off when a new FA is created.

    - The fixed asset rules for fixed asset determination in the purchasing module go beyond that and (a) post an expense if the value is below the threshold defined in the purchasing module or (b) post an acquisition if the value is above the threshold defined in the purchasing module.

Both features are independent of each other.

That is, if you are using the fixed asset determination rules in the purchasing module then the threshold that you define in this form counts and determines whether to expense an amount of whether to post a FA acquisition.

I assume that you refer to the fixed asset determination in the purchasing module, right?

    Hi Sam

If you have access to Dynamics Learning Portal there is a course about fixed assets.

    mbspartner.microsoft.com/.../1656

Capitalization Threshold is described in the following sections of the course:

Module 1: Fixed asset setup > Parameters

Module 1: Fixed asset setup > Capitalization Threshold

Module 4: Transactions > Create and Acquire Fixed Assets From Purchasing

    Kind regards

    Sten

    Hi,

Yes it is the fixed asset determination, I am attaching screenshots.

    Hello Sam,

Here some screenprints and additional information

Here is my setup for Fixed Assets (computers) that I made

    8713.FA4.png

    0552.FA2.png

This rule specifies that a computer that costs more than 1500 USD is classified as a fixed asset.

The important thing is that you link the organization wide identified with the rule.

    4810.FA3.png

Once this is done, create a purchase requisition and select the procurement category.

In my first example, I entered a price > threshold of $1500

    8713.FA4.png

As a result, the fixed asset group is automatically selected in the purchase requisition line.

What is important here is that you cannot change it.

    1258.FA5.png

If I enter a price < $1500, then the fixed asset group is empty and you cannot change it

    6685.FA6.png

The next step would be transferring the purchase requisition to a purchase order.

Once this is done, the information included in the purchase requisition will be transferred to the purchase order

    4503.FA7.png

You are right that users could change the fixed asset group at this point.

    This is the standard behavior.

To prevent users from doing that you can either

    (a) implement an organizational guideline telling the users that this is not allowed, or

    (b) modify the standard functionality e.g. by hiding the field in the PO form or some other modification.

Hope that clarifies what you can expect from standard "AX/D365FO"

    Ludwig
