Animation for Dynamics 365 Guides (Holo Lens)

Posted on by 10

I'm working on a guides that would incorporate some animation from the 3d models I have made from Blender. Currently, we have .fbx 3d models  with animation sampled but when I imported to the Guides app on PC, it's not playing animation and also in the Holo Lens Guides app. Do you have any related article or document on how we integrate animated 3d models in Guides Preview app and able to animate also in Holo lens app.

I confirm that the GLTF format, exported from Blender 2.80, plays animation on PC Guides interface. later i will test with Hololesn2.

Hi all - I'm posting information about using Blender to export animations for 3D models you'd like to use in D365 Guides.

The upcoming release (tentatively end of August 2019) for D365 Guides will include the ability to upload .FBX files directly. This will enable you to play node-based animations in FBX models created in Blender and imported into Guides.

Until then, we recommend you to export from Blender to FBX, then load it into 3D Viewer application to verify the animations, and finally export to .GLB so you can upload to Guides. Blender's animation settings for the in-built GLTF and the BabylonJs Plugins are still under development and require additional options found in the FBX exporter to be added to disable NLA Strips and All Actions (which are currently not supported by Guides). We are currently working on requesting these updates.

When exporting FBX’s from blender a couple of options will need to be turned off, to make sure you see all the animations included in the model.

I don't know if there's a restriction concerning the software used. I don't think so actually, but I've never try with another 3D editing software.

Could you try with 3DS Max ? It should have a 30 days trial before pursaching a license

Does that mean to enable exporting 3D model with animation in Guides, we restrict only on using "3DS Max 20xx" software (which of course a licensed application unlike Blender in Opensource)

    ?

I have both tried .GLTF format and .GLB format in animating models but neither of this two is not displaying animation in Guides Preview app on PC and Holo Lens with the use of Blender 2.8/2.7(w/ babylonJS exporter).

    Hello

For me, animations with format .GLB are not working on Guides Preview PC and Hololens app neither.

The only thing I can do is display the animation in .GLTF format and see it in Guides Preview on PC. But in that case I cannot see it in the Hololens app

I used the babylonJS exporter for 3DS Max 2018.

Hope that it still gives you a hint

The animation in 3D model with format .GLB is not playing on the Guides Preview PC and Holo Lens app. I also try the new Blender 2.8 with native support for GLB/GLTF format in exporting. I also read documentation about the exporters in Babylon for Blender. Both 3d models animation exported from this application still does not play animation from Guides App in PC and Holo lens. Hi there,

Guides currently supports animations in GLTF format.

Could you please try installing the BabylonJS Exporter plugin for your 3d editing software (e.g. Maya, 3ds Max) from this link:

    github.com/.../Max2Babylon-1.4.2.zip

… and then use this exporter to export the model with the animations in GLTF format. After that, importing the model into your guide using the PC Authoring tool should preserve the animations and play them on HoloLens.

Please let us know on this thread whether this worked for you or not. Thanks!
