We have a large number of projects which require an even larger number of unrelated 3D objects in our 3D Library. The more we projects we do, the worse our problem becomes because we continue to add more and more 3D objects. Creating guides has become slower and more tedious for us compared to when we first started and had an empty Library. For these reasons, we decided to investigate how to organize our 3D Library. We don't understand why we can't put our 3D objects into the existing collections or the new collections we created? We think if we can unlock this 3D Object Collection property, it will solve our organizational objectives because we could make a new collection for each project or use existing collections for common 3D objects.
How do we unlock this 3D collection property?
How do we put new 3D Objects we created into the existing 3D Toolkit collections? We have created many new 3D object "symbols" like the red cancel symbol shown below, but the 3D Object Collection property is locked? Is there another way to assign the collection ID?
We were successful creating new collections, but do not know how to add objects to them?
The padlock means that the field in the Guides Model Driven App user interface is locked and cannot be edited.
This doesn't mean that the data itself is not editable (as you can update this field in the Dataverse via other means like the Dataverse API, or through Power Automate), it's locked because the Guides model driven app was never meant to be an authoring tool for individual Guides.
I would be more than happy to pass your feedback back to the team to consider for future iteration.
Thank you, that worked! It's great to have your support. Can you help me to better understand the system please? Why is it only possible from the collection entity? Using the "add existing 3D object" menu on the collection entity changed the 3D object's collection property, but why is the collection membership function not possible directly from the 3D object entity (padlock by property name)? What does the padlock mean if that field can be modified from another entity, the collection entity?
Hello,
This documentation may be helpful as it outlines how to add 3d object to a specific collection.
