Markup for purchased items

Hello All,

Can we configure AX 2012 to automatically apply a markup (percentage) to purchased items similar to how we can apply a markup to expenses. It doesn't look like it's possible in AX 2012 R1. Maybe R2? or R3?

thank you,

Yes. The functionality is sometimes called 'Markup', but in AX 2012 is found under Procurement & Sourcing -> Setup -> Charges.

Hi Guy and thanks for your reply.

I don’t believe this is quite what I’m looking for.  We are looking for a feature that treats items (i.e. Material) the same way that expenses are treated on Time and Material projects.

For Expenses, AX allows us to apply a markup on expenses which automatically sets the “Sales” value of the expense i.e. Cost * (1+markup%) = Sales Value.

The Expense Markup is set in the "Sales Price - Expense" table.  The expense markups can default to a “catch all” markup and can also be project specific.

With our current version AX 2012 R1,  sales values on items purchased have to be manually entered.  This causes many issues and rework is often required as item markups vary from project to project.

So, has AX 2012 R3 addressed the issue of Markups on items so they do not need to be manually entered on all items purchased?  In the end we want the Sales values on purchased items to be automatically populated based on project specific configuration similar to how expenses are handled.

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Regards,

You're right. 'Charges' is not what you want! And I also realise you're talking about Project, which I know little about. If pricing on Sales orders is in some way useful, read on....

On the item you've got the base sales price (which applies to All customers, if you're not using Trade Agreements). You can set this manually, or you can get AX to base it on a purchase price or a cost price. For example, if you set the 'Sales price model' to 'Charges percentage' and the 'Base price' to 'Purchase price', you can enter a percentage in the 'Charges percentage' field. Then, on the 'Purchase' fast tab, set the Purchase price. AX will set the 'Price' on the 'Sell' fast tab appropriately.

If you tick 'Latest purchase price' on the 'Purchase' fast tab, AX will update the 'Purchase price' every time you post a purchase order invoice for the item, thus updating the sales price. This is a crude solution, but a way to ensure the sales price remains up-to-date.

I admit it's not very advanced, and is not new in R3.

You've also got commodity pricing, but that's not new in R3 either:

I'm not sure that fits your requirement. And you have to use Trade Agreements (albeit, they are created for you).

What is new in R3 is Retail pricing on a sales order, but I don't know of anything in there that does Cost plus.
