Dynamics AX Retail Hardware Station

Hi,

I've installed the hardware station on a register, and the next step is to install merchant information. This fails as the Hardware Station Configuration failed when communicating with Retail Server. If you've got any tips, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

The SSL certificate is created on the register and imported on the Retail Server, and I suspect that there might be an issue related to this.

From the the HardwareStationConfigUtility log after trying to install merchant information (some Norwegian text):

Look in the event log for RetailServer and see if you find more info. Also, run the health check url for RetailServer.

Thanks Andreas. The event viewer says the same as the event file, and the health check URL is successful.

    Hi Mr. Djonne,

First, make certain that you can reach the Retail Server from the computer running hardware station.  This usually looks like https://<myCompany>ret.axcloud.dynamics.com/healthcheck?testname=ping

Verify that the certificate to the Retail Server is trusted on the hardware station computer as well.

Lastly, verify that your AAD credentials have enough permissions to be able to retrieve stores and hardware station details.  Obviously an administrator would be able to, but the standard user does not always get all the associated permissions.

Let me know, please, if any of this works to solve your issue.

    Sincerely,

    Jarad Shannon

    Hi Jarad,

I've followed the instructions in your article. I'm able to reach the retail server with the ping URL. Both DBCheck and RealTimeServiceCheck succeeded. Does that mean the certificate is fine? I created it on the POS/Hardware Station and imported on Retail Server (not a certificate expert though, so could be totally wrong, but I was able to select it during installation of hardware station).

I'm able to retrieve stores and registers in the 'install merchant information' step, which I abort.

The POS is a traditional POS computer, where Hardware Station is installed as well. When I open Modern POS and select connect to hardware station, there are two section, connectivity and pairing. Should I select 'yes' on both? After pairing I get this message: 'there was an error communicating with the hardware station, please contact your system administrator'.

The same happened when I tried from modern POS and hardware station on my own computer, but I was able to pair from cloud POS (Google Chrome, never been able to activate cloud POS in Internet Explorer), though it said no hardware station was active when I added an item to transaction.

    Hi Trond,

    A few things:

    1. Hardware station and Modern POS on the same computer is not supported.  Modern POS already has all the hardware station bits internally, so there's no point in having an additional hardware station.  This stated, if it is required for some odd reason (that I would love to properly understand), then Loopback will be required, otherwise the computer is incapable of properly talking to itself.  Cloud POS functions with a local hardware station due to the nature of a web browser and how it sends / retrieves data.

    2. Hardware station do NOT function unless "Install merchant information" completes successfully.  You must have EFT numbers for the hardware stations and install them locally.

    3. Pairing is different from having an "Active" hardware station.  Paired means you are ABLE to use that hardware station.  Active means you are actively USING that hardware station.

    Hopefully these help.

    Sincerely,

    Jarad Shannon

Thanks, this is very useful information!

    1. I'm getting the sidebar telling me there is no active hardware station when logging on, or adding an item, which made me believe it was needed. Do I need any OPOS tools on the modern POS computer, as in enterprise POS? The  customer has old equipments, and I hope it's possible to use with this version. They won't be using tablets.

    2. The install merchant information does not complete, telling med that hardware station can't communcate with retail server, even though it clearly can, as the store and hardware station is provided in the install form.
