Close a AX Company

HI,

I was wondering if there is an easy way to close a company in AX. We use GL Daily journals, AP( Invoice and payment )Journals and AR journals (Free text and payment). No other modules.

Right now what we do to close a company in AX 2009 :

1) Stop all number sequence

2)  Disable the active workflow configuration (no journals can be posted without workflows)

3) Ledger parameters - Enable Consolidate company accounts (this stops posting any journals though we dont use Consolidation feature).

Stopping periods can be a considered an easy way, but I cant stop Periods as they are shared with other companies.

So is there any easy way to close a company that i might have overlooked ?

Thanks

    Hi Venkatesh,

What you did in points 1 and 2 are ok

    3) You can disable all Chart-Of-Accounts by marking "Closed" flag (you can use this option also incase if you don't want to enable consolidate company flag for this purpose)

    4) Periods are specific to each company and they are not shared by default, you can stop the periods for the specific company to avoid postings as-well

The alternative approach to stop transactions in any company is to create a new Security Domain and put this company in the newly created domain and remove it from other old domains if exists, and create new read-only only security groups for required users for the under this new domain

    Hi Venkatesh,

Like Mastervbnet mentioned, I think the most easy way is using the security to provide read only (or deny) access.

You could also stop all items transactions (Item details - Setup button - Default / Specific order settings)

    HI Mastervbnet

On #3 and #4 from your reply, we have a customization for sharing CoA and Ledger periods. So that wont work out for us.

Yes moving to a new domain might be simpler solution.

do you know if there are any simpler solution in AX 2012 as domain concept no longer exists in AX 2012?

    Hi Venkatesh,

In AX2012 you have to be more careful. The system administrator role is a special one and provides access to all features and companies. This cannot be changed. If you only provide this role to some service and admin accounts instead of granting permissions to several users, it is also possible to create a read-only role.
