On prem network printing

hi

we have AX Finance and operations running on prem. i have installed a network printer and set it up to be used in print management for delivery note prints.

The printer works fine outside AX operation, the path i entered in ax is \\whps001\ProjectRoom and when i browse to the path the printer queue opens so all fine here, the printer is set as Active, but when i use print management on DNote print i get no errors and no prints.

i followed the below Microsoft guide to installing on prem ax printers

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/dev-itpro/analytics/install-network-printer-onprem

anyone else have a similar issue and get resolution?

Did you install the  Document Routing Agent on local host computer to act as Print Server, on which you’ve installed all network printers ?

(Document Routing Agent client can be downloaded directly from D365FO application: Organization administration > Setup > Network printers)

do you have to do this on prem? the download link on the "on prem" install doesn't even have the routing agent link (we used to be on azure and we did have link) also the Microsoft guide makes no reference to routing agent for on prem either?

It should not be needed -   I wondered whether whether you had set it up nd whether that might be a contributory factor, or alternatively whether it would give you another way to resolve the issue.

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, you can print documents from a local or network-connected printer device as long as it provides integrated services supporting an HTML5 client and uses hosted client applications with Microsoft Office 365 service. On a test system I am able to use default network printers. DRA manages the spooling of the documents and can access both local and network printers.

If this is just a specific report print issue, then Is this an out of the box report or a customised SSRSreport?  If a customised report is added into Print management in D365, then it needs to add an event handler to a delegate.

    hi Magic1949

just std ax documents are failing to print, but what i am not sure of is "as long as it provides integrated services supporting an HTML5 client and uses hosted client applications with Microsoft Office 365 service"

i will have to look into that !

    will post my results

    cheers

    hi Pierre

not really got a fix yet, our ERP provider so far has managed to get 1 printer working

what i know so far is the printer must be installed on one of your application servers, but i will post back when they get me a solution - seems like on prem 365 have some bugs to fix yet!

    Hi Raff,

by trying to find some information to print documents in batch, I got to the Document Routing Agent. But because we are on premise, I had to be more precise and found your post. Do you have any news? Is it working? Do you think it is maybe an issue to post to microsoft?

Btw: that was helpful to me https://community.dynamics.com/365/financeandoperations/b/dynamicsaxand365/posts/tips-and-tricks-to-successfully-set-up-your-dynamics-365-for-operations-platform-part-8-printing-options

    Thx and good luck :-)
