Difference between fixed bin and default bin

Please could someone help me with the difference between a fixed bin and default bin in the bin contents list? I really want a setting so whenever you use a particular item, it comes up with the same bin - including on Assembly orders. At the moment on assembly orders lots of my items come up to be taken from the bin that the finished item is going into rather than where they're coming from! Thanks

I don't think you can "tick" both "default" and "fixed" at the same time. .not sure what you mean here.

    Hello there,

probably best to have a chat with a specialist at you partner but if you want to gun it alone here is a good start to think about.

    Hi Roberto,

To a novice, such as myself and my team, these sound the same. Could you give some scenarios in which they are applied differently? We do basic operations: receive, assemble, ship. We haven't done any transfers.

We have a small warehouse with a small quantity of items (10s of vendors and 100s of items). We are using default location bins for receipt, ship, and assemble but we currently have been using just one stocking bin for items. We want to branch out to using a proper bin scheme but not sure when we should be ticking the which box on the Bin Content screen.

My take is that, for us, it wouldn't hurt, and probably makes the most sense, to tick both boxes since each item will exist in only one bin. (That doesn't mean each bin will have only one item just that no item will be stored in more than one bin.)

    Thank you!

    hi,

    look at MSDN NAV Blog

    FIXED BIN

"If you select the Fixed field, you are fixing the item to the bin, meaning that Microsoft Dynamics NAV will try to put this item in the bin if there is space for it, and it will preserve the record fixing the item to the bin even when the quantity in the bin is 0.

Other items can be put into the bin, even though a particular item has been fixed to the bin"

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh173664(v=nav.71).aspx

    DEFAULT BIN

"If you are using bins at a location, assigning default bins to your items can make the process of shipping, receiving, and moving your items much easier. When a default bin is assigned to an item, this bin is suggested every time you initiate a transaction for this item. Default bins are defined in the Bin Content window."
