Assign employee to Project for a department - Which field to use ?

Hi,
 
Based on our organizational structure, a department has multiple projects/assignments.
Thus during onboarding, we need to assign the employee to a Project within the department. 
 
Please advise if there is an existing field that we can use within D365 HR.

    Hello,
     
    The best answer depends on what you wish to do with this information. When onboarding a new worker, a Project (and also Department) can be assigned as financial dimensions.
     
    Alternatively, you can set up a Department hierarchy (HR > Departments) which includes sub-departments (Projects) which can then be assigned to new workers via their Position.

    Thanks for your response.
    I have created the sub-department (cost center type) in the department hierarchy.
    I would like the field to appear in the Position > General Tab when creating the position so that I can select the department and then the sub-department.
     
    However, I cannot find/insert any field in the list related to the cost center type / sub-department (see screenshot below). Please advise.
