Hi Elena
GP Power Tools Security information window can show you the tasks and roles for each navigation list.
Also Deny based security can be used to restrict access without having to duplicate or change tasks and roles.

Yes you can restrict users from seeing data in a SmartList by restricting what they have access too. Go to Administration, Setup, User Security and decide what the user will have access too. Make sure you log in as that user to see if what you did worked.
