Item, Item Type Service, Inventory

Hello,

In NAV 2017 (LS NAV) I tried to import item master. Of which some of the items I have marked as Inventory and rest as Service as the service items are internally consumed and not sold. I left the Inventory Posting Group, Planning and Replenishment details blank for the Service type items. But during import am getting the error the item type should be Inventory and not Service.

Don't find much information regarding this Item type Service anywhere. Can't figure out where I am going wrong.

Thanks,

Krish

What value you have for Service Items for the Reserve, Costing Method, Routing No., Item tracking code, Production BOM No., order tracking policy if you have value in any of this you will get error for service items.

Reserve should be always and costing method should be FIFO, you can manually create an item of type service and try to set values in those fields and check which one is valid value for the import

    Hi,

All those values are blank. When manually creating it accepts. Error occurs only while importing via configuration package. And by the way even while manually creating Item card if I choose the Type as Service the FIFO is automatically filled in costing.

I think I will have to settle for Inventory type for now since I cannot use Item Journal for adjustments to bring into the system the opening stock. My concern is if they are marked as Inventory and consumed internally the stock remains forever unless they are written off as either damaged or discontinued inventory and this will have undesired impact on P&L.

    Anyway, thank you.

You could also run the debugger and check which field it is causing that error.
