Substitute items in BOMs

Dears,

I have the following case, which I can't figure out the best way to handle!

My customer Finished products are composed of BOM's each item is composed of Raw materials + Sub BOMs.

Each item may have a substitution that works fine if the initial is not available.

First:

For the planning, how will they get any alert that there is a stock from the substitution item to prevent ordering the initial in the Active BOM if out of stock?

Second:

How can the Production deal with the huge BOM versions that will be created for each finished product? how can they choose the correct version?

Look at Process manufacture and formulas where there is more support for substitutions.

Hi Sherine,

I think you mean that some of the sub-BOMs or raw materials on the BOMs of your Finished products can be switched for other items. If that's the case, Formula items offer support for something called 'Plan groups'. Not a lot of info. out there about them, but check this blog post:
