I have a doubt with resepect to organizational hierarchy. Please help me. My legal entity name is HML and having two business units as SBU-A ,SBU-B. We have various branch offices created under Departments as HO, BRANCH1,BRANCH2,BRANCH3. I have created custom financial dimenseionsDIVISIONS under BRANCH1, BRANCH2,BRANCH3 . Again created SECTIONS under DIVISIONS as given below .  Now while entering the journal if I select  department as BRANCH1 and division as ACCOUNTS the sections avaiable should be FINANCE,  PAYMENTS,    COSTING only.

How do I set the hierarchical relation ship in AX 2012 R2.

Is organizationhierarchy, dimension set  can be used for this purpose. If yes how.

    Hi Biju,

You can achieve this by setting up account structures. Within the structures you can create sections per dimension. See example next picture. You can do this for all dimensions with multiple sections.

When all dimensions are based on organization units, you can use the organization hierarchies for creating this structure as well. As you are using custom dimensions, this is not an option now.

    calvon,

Thank you very much for immediate reply.

The challenge is I have several  financial dimensions (sysetm/user defined). We have to establish a hierarchy within it .  This hierachy does not have any relation with Main Account. The Business unit(system),  Departments(system), Division(user defined) and Section (user defined) etc related . If we select Business unit, Branch offices(Departments) under the selected Business unit has to be popped up. If we select Branch office, the divisions under that particular branch has to be popped up and if we select the division, the sections under the division has to be popped up. This hierachy is to be applicable in all modules.

Can we use Advanced rule option in accounting structure for this purpose. can any one tell me what is the use of Organization hierachy, Dimension set, Category hierchy etc in AX2012. Where can  I use this

    Hi Biju,

Theoretically thought it must be possible to define the relations within the Advanced rules. I have not done this myself, but heard that some persons were trying this approach.

Normally the advanced rules are used define some exceptions to add one or more dimensions.

Note that the relations are not recognized in forms where you can define default dimensions, but only is used at time of entering in a journal or posting.

The question of Organization hierarchy, Dimension set, Category hierarchy etc:

A dimension set is used within the financial statements in AX general ledger module.

You can use the organization hierarchy for multiple purposes and is too mucht to tell in this answer. Take a look at the next link for more information: technet.microsoft.com/.../hh209258.aspx

Category hierarchies are used for multiple purposes as well, but is not financial dimension related. See next link: technet.microsoft.com/.../hh209418.aspx

Thank you calavon. Actually I want to create few financial dimensions, and to have a relation with each other. Now in the journal if I select first dimension, all other dimension should be filtered based on the previous dimensions value irrespective of the main account value. Some times we may not enter values for all these dimensions. Is it possible through accounting structures?
