Too many forms are currently open...

Our users are complaining that they are getting the following message:

"Too many forms are currently open, close some forms and try again."

The message appears in an info box. It is very frustrating for them because it causes AX to close on them.  They say that there seems to be no correlation between the message and the number of forms they do in fact have open.  I have few facts to go on. Just complaints.

They say "it's been happening for a while". (We have been live on AX for 6 months.)  but I am hearing about the problem for the first time. And,  I am suddenly hearing about it from multiple sources. The different sources perform different jobs so I assume the problem is not isolated to a specific application.

 Any thoughts?

Thank you!

    Hi,

This smelled  (stinks) like a memory leak from the beginning. It is a memory leak on which the GAC starts closing processes to get more memory resources available. What application actually does not matter. So the problem causing it should be fixed. In the past I coded on ce.net with only 640K of memory..and that error appeared on the opening of 7 forms.

Not using the 'settings' is a workaround, not a fix/ patch to your problem. I would turn back to your partner and have them fix it. In particular if your implementation is only 6 months ago. I would say your partner has not installed the latest version of AX on your machine? Can that be? Are you business ready?

    Hi,

If you have the latest version and this bug is repetitive after more than one year then I suggest that MS gives you some years a free Business Ready license and pays for the partner for completing the patches.

It is unacceptable that such memory leak bugs are present and in particular if they have been noticed and patched with a hotfix. This states that AX team / AX does not lend itself for unit testing and appropiate following up of internal procedures to get a good and solid working product. Above all memory leaks --> it is time that AX goes to a managed application in .NET where you can focus on other stuff then then coding to avoid memory leaks.

I am curious to know your findings since if you have the latest version all AX installations can have similar error. How much memory and PF (page file) does your PC have where this problem occurs?

    Hello,

We have this same issue at my company.  I have removed the automatic filtering from the grids and that has not helped as  a workaround.  There is also a hotfix available from Microsoft for this issue.  I installed it and it did not fix the issue for us.  Anyone that finds any other information would be much appreciated!!

    Thanks!

What is the memory and pagefile present on your client pc? I run VMWare so I can throttle down the memory to see if it happens to my system as well.

    Hi Chris,

This hotfix is of 2008 ? Shouldn't it be fixed in a brand new version of 2009 released a couple of months ago? The bug has been reported in the early 2009 again.

What is your opinion on this?

Thanks, Chris. This sure seems to apply to what we're experiencing. I will pursue...
