Electronic Reporting/ER Configuration component for model isn't created when completing new version

(3) ShareShare

Posted on by 238
I have created and completed two versions of a data model and the configuration components section is not automatically updated with these corresponding versions. This has the consequence that I cannot select the latest two model versions in the format to model mapping.

I have seen some discussions of using a rebase to perhaps get this updated, is that really needed? It seems counterintuitive to me. If a new version is created in the upper part of the form, surely the lower part should get the same version? It seems to me that doing a rebase should not be required for this basic functionality, as the rebase might introduce other issues for me that I am not currently interested in pursuing.

Edit: I tried using the rebase function for both the model and the model mapping with no results, i.e. no configuration component with the latest version(s) was created and when trying to print the report it still fails.

    Hi,

I am not sure if I understood your question.
Can you tell us what changes you made to the model? As far as i remember, if you add labels, the model doesnt get updated.

Nevertheless, if you have done changes in the model, it will be reflected in the model mapping, which you also need to set to completed.

Last and important step, and I think this is your main issue, you have to select in your format the latest model version.

    Kind regards, Adis

Thanks for your very helpful and useful response, @Adis!

    > "Last and important step, and I think this is your main issue, you have to select in your format the latest model version."
Yes, that is exactly my issue. I looked at your earlier question on a similar topic from which I learned that I need to select the model mapping version under (3) in your response here. It was a very useful post, thank you for that one too! However, that's where my current issue lies, as it seems. I can't select the latest version(s) there, because the latest two versions are not available for selecting there, and that's what my question is about: "I cannot select the latest two model versions in the format to model mapping" - under the edit button as you illustrate.

So, it appears I need to figure out how to create the configuration components for the two latest versions of the model to be able to select them, or so it seems to me. I cannot select version 17 or 18, only version 16 or earlier versions.

    > "Can you tell us what changes you made to the model? As far as i remember, if you add labels, the model doesnt get updated."
I also saw your comment about adding a field to the model to get it updated properly, but that's what I did in the first place. I have added a field to the model, then mapped it in the model to datasource mapping.

    > "Nevertheless, if you have done changes in the model, it will be reflected in the model mapping, which you also need to set to completed."
Yes, both model mapping and model have been set to completed. Thanks for the suggestion!

    Hi @Dan P,

    Glad my posts helped you.
Thanks for the clarification, now I understand what you mean. So, the issue is not that you cant select version 17 or 18 of the model, the issue is that there is simple no version 17 or 18 of the model (configuration components)

    Question is why.

In order to analyse this further I would ask you to provide the following screenshots\information:

    • the field you added in the model mapping and which kind of field it is
    • the model mapping of that field
    • in the format, where do you expect that new field(s) to be
I know you may think that you already checked that multiple times, however, I often find the answer myself by going through the whole process in detail.

    Kind regards, Adis

    Hi,

    In addition to Adis’ feedback:

Rebasing a configuration is recommended when new fields are defined in the data model, and you've added corresponding mappings in the model mapping that need to be available for use in the format designer.

Rebasing can also be used to synchronize the data model and model mapping to the same version, especially if you want to ensure consistency between them when building or updating formats.

I noticed while continuing the testing that the issue with version numbers that don't match between Configuration components and version of configuration wasn't really causing my problems. I completed the latest configuration version (155.1.19) in draft status and a new version was created for it (155.1.20), and also a new line was created under Configuration components with a new version number (17). However, as you see in my comment here, the version number under Configuration components did not match the version number of the new configuration (17 != 20). So apparently, the version numbering of Configuration components does not necessarily match the version numbering of the configuration.

This means you just need to pick the latest version available in the format mapping's data model. If you need to pick an older version, for whatever reason, you may need to do some guessing as to which version you need to select because I don't see how you can differentiate between the Configuration versions when their numbering doesn't equal the numbering of the configuration version.

So, selecting the latest version (of the Configuration component in the format mapping's defined data model version) actually was a correct reference.

Therefore, I realized that my actual problem was something else. This is unrelated to the question asked, but I'll describe it anyway. Maybe some day someone battles with a similar issue.

My problem was with some recent update I had done to the data model to data source mapping that was not found which resulted in an error message when trying to save an update to the format mapping. This was caused by making changes to the wrong data model mapping. I was working on a project invoice format, and there was a configuration named project invoice model mapping, so I assumed I should use it. But apparently this model mapping was not applied by the format and instead another model mapping was. I had not been able to find information on where the connection between format and data model mapping definition was to be found, so therefore I went by the name that seemed relevant. I still don't see anyway to make this connection, instead it appears the data model mapping that has default configuration selected will be run for all formats belonging to the same configuration tree. Maybe I'm missing something though, feel free to inform me (if someone can get through this description which is a bit difficult to write down in a clear and consistent manner).

In addition, thank you for your comment @Alireza Eshaghzadeh!

    Hi Dan,

Finding the correct data model and model mapping in the ER framework can be challenging at first.

One practical approach is to start with the Format designer. For example, let’s say I’ve chosen Project management invoice (Excel). Under the "Versions" section, you can find the related data model in the "Base" field for each version.

To identify the model mapping, follow these steps:

    1. Open "Designer".

2.Click on "Mapping", then select the model and choose View/Edit.
3.In the "Definition" tab, you can find the model mapping details.

If you want to locate this directly in the ER framework, start by checking the data model, and then look for the model mapping (RDP) — except if the format designer is related to Sales Invoice or Free Text Invoice. In most cases, you’ll find the mapping with a similar name.

For instance, you can locate "Project management invoice model mapping (RDP)". However, you should always verify if it’s the correct mapping. How? The answer lies in the Definition. Open "Designer" and confirm that the Definition matches the expected structure.

Thank you for your response, !

That is helpful. I did evaluate that value, but I wasn't sure if it was indeed the controlling parameter. It is a bit lacking in design, because the name isn't showed in the dropdown list. For my example, the same definition value ("InvoicePoject") was applied to definitions for  two different model mappings, iirc, and since the dropdown list doesn't show the name field that differs between them I can't distinguish between the two different definitions. Or so it seemed to me when I last checked. Anyway, now I now where I should look, thank you!
