Dimensions on Travel and Expense Categories

As far as I can see from testing the answer to this question is no but i'm going to ask in case i'm missing something.

Is it possible to add default dimensions to Expense Categories?

With items you can add it the posting profile stating you wish the item to always be posted to budget XYZ - for example.

Is it possible to do the same for expenses. To me it looks like you can only specify the main account.

Our expense categories match an analysis dimension and will always be a 1 - 1 relationship.

this would save the users having to key in the analysis dimension auto-populating in the same way as it does when they raise a PO.

    Hello Bruce Wilson,

If you have a 1:1 relationship between your expense categories and your financial dimensions, can't you link the ledger account used for your categories with a fixed financial dimension in the COA?

    Hi Ludwig,

Unfortunately there isn't a 1-1 relationship between the ledger account and the dimensions.

Account 810300 for example could have an analysis code of 7101, 7102, 7103 - each of which are linked to items/categories.

Is there no way to link the category to the dimension:

    7101 - Subsistence

    7102 - Accommodation

    7103 - Air Fares

    Hi bwilson21,

Can you try if working with sub-categories, as exemplified in the next screenprint resolves your issue?

    Hi Ludwig,

Sorry for the late response. The subcategories still don't give me the option to attach a financial dimension, only main account. Ideal scenario would be to be able to assign a dimension_analysis to every expense category as well as a main account for posting.

    Hi Bruce,

If you want to assign financial dimensions in a flexible way you would need to make an adjustment as the standard accounting setups do not provide this possibility.

    Best regards,

Agreed, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

going to look at customising trvcosttype table to see if I can achieve this and make it act the same way as a PO.

    Hi Bruce -

I stumbled upon this post and was wondering if you ever found a way to resolve the issue about adding dimensions in the expense report module.  Thanks,
