How to copy/paste multiple Item Number lines from Excel to Dynamics AX?

Hello,

My first time her and I´m pretty new to Dynamics. The new company I work for uses Dynamics 2009 and I already stumbled on a challenge that nobody in the company has been able to solve so I thought I would give it a go here.

Whenever we make a sales order and add Item Number into the order we are only able to copy/paste in 1 single Item at the time. We deal with pretty complex orders and it can easily consist of 20 or more Items. We have a Configurator program that I programmed in Excel VB which easily configures a machine with the correct Item Numbers. As of per today all sales reps have to switch back and forth between Excel and Dynamics to copy/paste Item by Item. This is as, you understand, very time-consuming.

I just will not believe that a Microsoft Product is so  bad that you cannot bulk import or just simple plain copy/paste a column with items from Excel directly into the "Lines" tab in Dynamics on the sales order.

Anybody have any ideas/solutions as how to solve this and make this effective. Most probably there will be several ways of doing so but I just need to get som ideas of what is possible.

Hope I have explained this so that you understand the issue, if not, just let me know what else you need to know.

Kind regards,

T. Nuis

Have you tried importing data into AX through excel add-in? There is a Dynamics AX tab inside of excel that allows importing/exporting tables/data directly back and forth.

Perhaps you might know this already. I apologize if this is redundant info. But if you didn't know this then hope this helps. Good luck!

Actually I did not know that and I´m trying but cannot seem to add this TAB from anywhere.... We have Office Professional Plus 2010. Any tips as how to get this?

I went to File->Options->Add-Ins but nothing about Dynamics AX anywhere. Is it possible to download this from somewhere?

    Hi,

I am not sure but add-in to excel working just with ax2012.  I think that you have to use other methods and do some customization for import sales line through csv or excel file. If you are able generate  xml file you can use AIF module to import and create the whole salesorder with lines.

    Hi tnuis,

As Daniel says, the Excel Add-in is only available with AX 2012. If you have a product called Atlas, you could import Sales orders from Excel.

Thanks for your suggestions everybody. Appreciate it:)

Daniel Kuna: Do you have any references as to what you are talking about? I have been trying to find the word Import in Dynamics and cannot find it anywhere. Looked through the whole menu several times both at the home screen and in the menu in a sales order. Either it´s just me who is not familiar enough with Dynamics yet or there is several components linked to Dynamics that might not be installed by our IT meaning I´m missing some functions.

You talk about the AIF module, is this a function inside of Dynamics, third-party?

Any links to something I can read up on would be great:)

    Hi,

we are using AIF to create salesOrder from Customers through xml file. Seting is quite  complicated.   You can start with

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../aa570087(v=ax.10).aspx

Sometime is more usefull make new function by x++.

You can use class asciiIo for CSV import.

    or

    import direct from excel file.

Very good example you will find in

    daxtechies.blogspot.cz/.../import-record-from-ms-excel-to-ax2009.html
