I need some help in setting up personnel number sequences per legal entity.  I can create the number sequence but cannot assign it to the legal entity number sequence for HR Parameters

Personnel number sequence is shared across legal entity.  Refer technet.microsoft.com/.../hh209346.aspx.  If you need entity specific number sequence, then you have to customize it

Yeah, we have 3 separate legal entities within AX and we have employees associated with each.  Our HR wants to have 3 separate personnel numbers associated with each making them unique.

They wouldn't be shared across legal entities but different for each.

You can do it but it requires that the number sequence be manual.  You can then assign any number sequence that HR wants per legal entity.  Not elegant but it works.

    Hi,

What's in a number? If you have a sequence per legal entity and a worker will switch to another legal entity, what will happen with this worker? Yu would like to keep track of his history. Try to understand and use the concepts of having global data in the system.  I have seen requirements to have more easy view on positions per legal entity, but a worker has mostly a manual sequence which or follows a user ID or a social number.

I agree with what you say.  But it is the customers decision as to whether he wants the flexibility to move a worker from one legal entity to another.  There are many customers that do not want some number assigned to each employee, but rather a standardized numbering scheme.  This severely limits and creates possible issues down the road.  I was simply pointing out an alternative to using an automatic numbering process.  Quite obviously, AX has the capabilities to do this both ways with the automatic numbering providing the most flexibility down the road.  Sometimes you just have to analyze the trade offs and determine the best option for your company.

If you move workers between legal entities you have to retire and rehire them across.  Its not a simple transfer.  Employee numbering has several impacts that are not just in HR.  The accounting personnel use them for invoicing and expensing purposes.  We are a professional services company and 90% of our staff is billed out to projects.

It was a suggestion from our HR folks but not sure what we will do.

So you now have some options to consider.

    - Manual sequence vs Customization

    - Numbering per legal entity or a global convention

It is up to you. You should feel confident with a certain choice. I just provided my insight on decisions we had done on some other professional services companies with multiple legal entities and over 250 fte.

There are many companies such as hotels, or PSA companies where staff frequently move between companies to augment each others teams for specific projects. However there are also companies where the information in the employee master is  sensitive between companies and the employee data should not be shared.

Ax 2012 R2 introduced partitions which is one option to segment the data (but I don't particularly like it). The option to publish or enable  Employee records to other companies e.g. as with account or products would give more flexibility
