AX 2009 and SQL Server 2012

Hi

I am aware that I need a KB update for AX 2009 in order to make it work.

My question is if the updated kernel is backwards compatible, så one RU8 client can execute the Ru8 upgraded server and still access the not upgraded AOS ?

This information is needed because the customer wants to upgrade to SQL 2012 and in a period want to test the SQL 2012 database setup in at test environment while the same client must acces the production that is not upgrades .

    It's strongly discouraged; you can run into many weird issues if you use different versions of AOS and client.

    Nevertheless note that you can make a copy of the client folder before updating the client, so you'll have two versions - one upgraded and one original. Then prepare shortcuts for users so they use the right version of AX client for each environment.

    Microsoft changes the communication protocols frequently between AOS and client. Even though if it might seem to work, you might miss information in some cases and worst case cause application/aos crashes.

    I have implemented code to avoid this by closing down clients in application.startupPost() who do not match the kernel version of the AOS.
