in form creation of production order, my user always create the serial number manually.

I had checked at production order, AR and Inventory Management setup parameter for the sequence number.

anyone could advice how to set the number sequence number for serial number during Production order creation.

The number sequence is setup under Organization administrator, Common, Number sequences, Number sequences.

How serialization occurs is assigned on item by item basis using the Serial number group field. The serial number group controls whether to use a sequence number, as well as when that number is assigned (uncheck On Physical update and check Inventory Transactions only).

    Hi Boris,

thank you, what I need is where the menu/location to set/activate number sequence for serial number. for example, at procurement and sourcing parameter there are number sequence tab, and there are PO field that linked/associated with sequence number I had created.

that's I need to know. thank you

    Hi Mark,

could you give more explanation and example, so when I create production order from sales order line, the serial number auto filled from number sequence.

    Thank you

in inventory management, look for number groups. Create a new group called Serial Auto. Check boxes for Only for inventory transactions, On physical update, Per Qty = 1, Choose a number sequence code or create your own. Check boxes for Purchase, Inventory, Production, Kanban Activation as you need (usually not Order activation). Assign this serial number group to all items you want to auto serialize.

The item must also belong to a serialized inventory dimension group.

You can create a new number sequence code, if desired. We prefix our serial number sequence with SER.

We use AX2009, so I don't know if AX2012 is same, but when the serial number is auto-assigned to the Production order/Sales order when production order is created, the serial number only appears in the inventory transaction - it does not show on the SO or the Production inventory dimensions. But the transactions are still serialized.

In AX 2012 go to Inventory management>Setup>Dimensions>Number group to get to where Mark is talking about
