Guides library organization

Hello,

I'm just getting into using Guides to create assembly instructions for my company (manufacturing).  Upon getting my license, I'm finding the "Library" section (3D models, images, etc.) is a long list of everything that's been created in the Guides environment for my company.  We are not working on the same guides, and it appears these lists could get out of hand incredibly quickly.  While some objects are more generic, the large majority won't be shared between us.

Is there a way to have folders for content in the Library (or otherwise see content specific to me)?  Considering how many assemblies manufacturing companies have, I can't imagine that this is the only way to manage the content.  I see that folders are possible for the guides themselves, but I'm hoping there's a method for organizing the assets.

Thanks for any insight.

(Screenshot shows the "Images" section, but it's similar with all the content categories)

P.S. - The name "Guides" makes it very difficult to actually search for info.  "Microsoft Guides" in a search engine is a very, very vague search even though it's intended to be specific.

    RE: Guides library organization

Hello David-  Any update to cleaning up or helping with the management of the Images in the Library of the Dyn365 Guides PC App, I see your last response was from about a year ago?  I agree with Dave, current design makes it very cluttered and requires a lot of admin management if we want to go the owner teams route you mention (unfortunately I am not the microsoft admin for our company).

    Dave Pinch,

Thank you for your response.  I'm greatly looking forward to an update that addresses asset organization!  I'm a bit surprised that this functionality isn't already implemented as it greatly affects scalability of the guides creation process.

I'd also like to add the suggestion of having guide-specific assets.  I imagine this setup working like this:

Inside the guide creation, the right-hand "library" section includes an option for filters.  These filters might include "Used in this guide" and "My assets".  Importing an asset may also include the option to specify a folder, "this guide only", "my assets", and/or "share with user/group" - with an option to later on change the categorization of any given asset ("hey, can you share assembly X so I can use it in this other guide?").

This way, there wouldn't just be a giant mass of everything that everyone has used for every guide and less focus would be put on the need to use the search field as the only means of navigating the assets.

    Thanks again for the info,

    Dave

    Nya,

Thank you for your response.  Unfortunately the link you provided only discusses deleting an entire guide itself.  My question is more geared towards organization of the assets - as guides can already be placed into folders.

    Thanks again

Hi Dave - great feedback. We are working on improved content organization in a future release. In the meantime it is possible to use ownership and sharing to limit the content seen by a given author. For example, if you are using owner teams to manage your guides access, you can set the owner of a 3D model to that team. People in other  teams will not see that content unless it has been explicitly shared with them. Another option is to use access teams to control content access. That said, we recognize that many people want to organize their content rather than limit visibility with security, and we are working on ways to make that easier. Thank you for sharing your feedback!

    Hi,

Please refer to the following documentation:

Deactivate or delete a guide in Dynamics 365 Guides (admins) - Dynamics 365 Mixed Reality | Microsoft Docs

Or you can post your proposal in Ideas forum.

For searching for keywords, you can try "Dynamics Guides" for a more efficient search
