Sync tables when importing TXT DEV

Hello people,

So we have BC 140 Spring version of the last year on premises (still c/al). We tried to import a small development, it was some codeunits/reports alongside and new field on a table.

That table has like approximately a 500 000 records and when we tried to import this development as "TXT" it will start compiling and syncing the database. This takes forever to be complete and then the following warning from development came up with this result:

"A connection to SQL Server is no longer usable.
This could be caused by one of the following reasons:

* The server has been shut down manually or because of an error.
* The SQL Server connection settings are not correct."

Could you please advice me with this situation if it is possible to reduce the sync time of bigger tables?
Or could it be related to a specific option of syncing that is blocking in time?

Thanks in advance,

Tiago

    Hello Tiago,

I'd recommend checking in the BC Admin tool to ensure the following timeouts are adequate for your environment (in the Database section):

    • SQL Connection Idle Timeout
    • SQL Command timeout

You could also try choosing the "Later" option when prompted to synchronize schema at compile time. You could then try to run the "Sync-NAVTenant" cmdlet  in the BC Administration Shell to do the sync.

If you have many Companies in the BC database it can contribute to this kind of behaviour.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Gearoid,

Thank you for your reply i will check the two properties of the SQL connection DB.

Yesterday i tried "Sync-NAVTenant" in shell admin but it took to long just like the development environment. I also searched and microsoft says that the sync should be maximum 30 mim, we have this database for 8 months for now so it shouldn't be that slow.

Even if i force it (-Mode Force) it will take a long time, never used the Later option but i will try it eventually.

We only have one company and the only thing out of the ordinary is 5 instances each for major departments, Web services/NAS  and IT debugs.

    Best Regards,

    Tiago Modesto

    EDIT 1:

I tested the later option of compiling and the RTC didn't open it up because it requires a "The system is not accessible, because it requires a schema synchronization.".

Do a Sync Tables from Dev environment.

Tools > Sync. Schema for all tables > With Validation

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Jyotsna,

That's exactly my point that sync, the shell administration sync as well as the development environment "Sync. Schema for all tables", they are too slow and normally it gives out error when it reaches the standard instance limit of 30 mim.

I can of course enlarge the time of the limit but that doesn't answer why is it slow.

    Best Regards,

    Tiago

Have you tried importing this into a database were you don't have much data, then take .fob from that and import it.

    Hi Suresh,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes i have tried and it is much quicker. Although we have here a database with 7 months of work that its already taking almost 30 minutes to sync. Isn't that strange enough ?

I ran an script and already created secondary keys for the table does it make it slower with the sync?

    Best Regards,

    Tiago

    Hi Tiago,

I would recommend checking if you see the same problem in a Test environment using the latest cumulative update. CU 15 for BC 14.x is due to be released today (or early next week if it is delayed). If the problem persists on CU15 then I would suggest opening a support ticket with Microsoft via your Solution Provider or Business Central Partner.
