PQU overlapping with package deployment.

Hi guys,
 
Hope all is well.
 
I've one quick question that i am not able to answer myself.
 
This weekend we are supposed to receive PQU in our production environment - Version: 10.0.39 (10.0.1860.134)
This version is currently installed in our pre-prod UAT environment which we are using as an image for the production environment.
 
Our production version is PU63 (7.0.7198.128).
 
Question: We plan to do package deployment from the above UAT to Prod.
This will take the current version + the customizations we want.
 
Will the PQU be paused or there will be a possible conflict ?

    Ah I see your point, the exact timing of the downtime.
     
    I don't think the MS PQU will commence if your update is already running, if you are concerned about a clash.
     
    If you aren't comfortable with that, I would postpone to the next available window.

    We have the following structure - 3 UAT environments.
    1. Is receiving the PQU's in advance as station 1
    2. Receives the updates as the pre-prod UAT
    3. Pre-prod UAT that we use as production based image.
     
     
    On 4th of July, we received the latest PQU in the pre-prod UAT and the same PQU is targeted for Prod this weekend.
    I do not know the exact time when this PQU update will be applied, is there any chance i can get this?
     
    So how i see it is that we need to wait for the PQU and afterwards mark the customization package as release candidate.
    This will only move the customizations because the version will be the same at that point.
     
    Other option is postponing the customization package for the next available slot.

    Do you plan to deploy directly from UAT to production (not via your pre prod environment)?
     
    If so, you will need to either:
     
    Deploy from UAT before the PQU update
     or
    Update UAT to the same PQU as pre prod/future prod before deploying UAT -> Prod
     
    Ideally you would first test the PQU with your UAT package update by updating UAT early. 
     
    If your UAT package is going to Pre Prod first, you will have 2 scenarios:
     
    Pre Prod to Production before the planned MS PQU: all updated in one downtime and MS PQU cancelled
     or
    Pre Prod to Production after the planned MS PQU: package applied okay, as minor versions already match

    I am very happy that you are answering my question.
    Unfortunately, i have never received notification from Microsoft with exact date time of the PQU.
     
    All i have is the release schedule that says 13-14 of July.

    Hi Simeon,

    I'm not sure if you can add a request for deployment in case a PQU is already scheduled. I never tried it. If it is possible I do expect a conflict. One of the updates will start first. The other might fail or need to be started after the first update. Do you know the time frame of the PQU? You can try to deploy your customizations after the PQU.
