Leave and absence - processing/accrue as of date functioning

Posted on by 21

Hello, I am looking for the use of the "Processing date"/"Accrue as of" date on the Accrue leave and absence plans. Under which cases should someone use a date other than "Today's date" when running leave and absence accruals?

The Microsoft documentation says only the following:
"The Accrue leave and absence plans dialog box appears. In Accrue as of, either select Today's date or select Custom date and enter a custom date."

Hi again Sytse, thanks for the additional info.

I did some testing on my own (now that I have today gained access to the leave entities - specifically "LeaveBankTransactionV2"), which has clarified this further for me.

I hired-on a test user with a hire date of 7/24/2019. I then ran the accrual for that employee, with today's date as the processing date (7/22/2022). It created past, and current, but no future accrual entries.

I then again accrued for the same employee, this time with the processing date in the future (1/1/2025), and future-dated accrual records up to that date were created.

From these tests, the processing date seems to be a 'to date', or what limits how far forward accrual entries will be created into the future. However, my testing was a bit different than the scenario you mentioned above (This request will take your balance below the minimum of X on date Y), so I will try what you say if my users do experience that error.

    Thanks again!

    Hi again Keith,

I tend to use the custom date in either scenarios where an amount needed to be rectified, or in the event of data migration.

As an example, a customer goes live today, but they want to have employees record the leave they took earlier this year for record-keeping purposes. I would run the accrual on 1/1/2022 so that everyone has their balance from that date, meaning that they can now request those past holidays without having the system tossing an error their way saying "This request will take your balance below the minimum of X on date Y".
