Upgrading Custom Program

Posted on by 1,270

Hi

I have an issue on upgrading a custom built SO program to Dynamics SL 2018 and I am really hoping that someone could point me in the right direction.

The issue is after upgrading the program on one machine I am able to launch and run processes in the custom program on that machine but after copying the program to another machine I am able to launch the application but on attempting to run a process I am getting an error message "DataAccess.Connection Open - Provider cannot be found.  It may not be properly installed.".

I installed visual studio thinking that would have helped but I am still getting the error message.

Anyone could point me in the right direction to resolve this issue?  Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Just where SL is installed is all that is required.  This includes server AND workstations that will access your program (I didn't mention that earlier).

    Hi Mark

Thanks so much for your response.

Should I install the MS OLE DB on both the application and DB server?

In SL 2018, they now require you to download and install the MS OLE DB Driver on the server where you install SL.  If you are using eCommerce Gateway, or doing integrations with Order Management and the DMG Object Model, you need this installed.  You will find this in the Release Notes for CU5 (Page 4), but not in any installation or pre-requisite documents (and not in Release Notes for CU6).  This tripped me up as well, they kind of buried it when it should be within the installation documentation.
