Warehouse location generate an error or warning when inventory go to exceed of given limit

Dear Experts,

I need a setup in warehouse, where the inventory go exceed of limit(limit number will be given by warehouse or something like that), so it give error or warning.Help!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Shabir,

What limit are you referring to? Please explain. It is about transactions per day, maximum quantity on hand?

I don't have a ready answer. There are some challenges to this e.g. if you have many items, and locations, then for every receipt inventory transaction the system would have to run a check, and that could be a major performance overhead. On-hand figures can change rapidly and the system calculates on hand dynamically as the form is opened rather keep a running total in a table that is constantly updated. it would also require a dedicated item for a location, and no mixed items in the same location.

I am not clear on the business reason for this e.g. generally if a location can only hold one pallet then you can't put two pallets,a tnk or silo will not physically hold more than its capacity.

Until the inventory transaction is complete the system cannot determine whether there is a problem - then who gets alerted , when is it reviewed, what happens meanwhile? If Ax stops the posting, then it may create operational issues depending on the warehouse, your operational needs etc and that judgement might be different for each item/location/transaction

An exception report to flag up possible problems for investigation may be your best approach but that could take some time to run if you have a large and busy warehouse..

Your 1 question is "I am not clear on the business reason for this e.g".The answer is some days before we had an inspection and one of the inspection person told that if you have some thing physically in warehouse, that must be same in warehouse.For example if in a warehouse location you can put 1 pallet and not be able to put another one, in this manner in the system you must have the same functionality(you put 1 pallet per location).

Hi Shabir Ahmad,

Assuming you are using advance warehouse management there is a out of box solution for this.

Depending on my location capacity we can set max limit of unit which can be stored in the same.

E.g. as in your case one location should have one pallet only.

You can use location stocking limit for this requirement. Below you can see I have setup that all locations in location profile pick 07 can get only 1 pallet.

It is a very powerful solution and this is only a part of what it can achieve.

Thanks for your reply, sorry to say that we haven't use (Advance Warehouse Management). Do you think is it possible without advance warehouse management module??

I fear if you are using traditional warehousing in inventory management there is no such clear functionality to help you out here.

Yes, we are using( Inventory Management Module) for warehouse, is it possible to enable warehouse module and start work on that ??or both are not possible to run??(inventory management Module and Warehouse Management Module). It means inventory management module and warehouse management could be run on same time to achieve that goal of generating warning or error for location.

Hi Shabir Ahmad,

Its not recommended and will cause issues in your system. ITS A BIG NO NO.

Advance warehouse management should never be used with legacy warehousing together. Its either one of them.

Note from Microsoft

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 includes new Warehouse and Transportation management modules that are enabled by a single configuration key, along with the previously released Warehouse management II module. Users should enable the configuration key for ONLY ONE of these modules, but not both, in a single-instance, single-partition deployment. Although technically feasible, enabling the configuration keys for both of these modules in a single-instance, single-partition deployment is not supported by Microsoft.

I appreciate your views and response, but is there any way to write the code and resolve this issue in some way.I mean to say that can we put some condition or write some code to reach to any consequence for this issue in this setup(inventory Management)
