Manage external (customer owned) toolings in AX

Hello!

I think I know that AX does not offer any kind of a standard Instrument to manage production tools in the warehouse/production area if they are not owned by the company, means that they are no fixed assets.

But what could be a good idea for a work around?

We are currently thinking of generating a product number for every tool, enter it with a zero cost value to our warehouse and use a separate item group with statistical accounts for the ledger posting.

Are there other feasible ideas ?

Any Input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Thanks for the answer.

    And yes, the tools are provided free of costs from the customer for whom the items are later on produced.

    The tools were produced or bought by our company for the customer and charged through a Project (Project Accounting) to the customer, but they stay free of charge on the production Company.

    I think the workaround with the separate product number and zero cost price is a feasible option.

    Are those tools provided free of costs from the customer for whom the items are later on produced or do you have to invest something to get / produce those tools?

    Thanks a lot for your reply.

    no there is nothing to pay for these tools. The scenario is that they built the tooling for the customer. Then the customer is charged with the tooling costs, but the tooling physically stays in the company in order to use it for the production of the finish good.

    But we would need a solution to get an overview of all those customer owned tools in the company and be able to find them if the customer asks some day to get his tooling

    Are those tools a kind of rented tools for which a certain regular or one-time price needs to be paid? If so, you could think of making use of special AX rental solutions or develop something yourself.
