Hi,

Does anyone know which is the maximum number of ledger account alias in standard D365?

We are thinking of using them instead of the functionality to translate main accounts because we want to see a description in the local language at voucher/invoice entry. I´m not sure if it will be too many alias...

Also, could you confirm that it cannot be use in Free text invoices? It can be used just in GL, accounts payable and projects. Is that correct?

You can test that, I think its 60 letter

Hi CapsLock,

In my environment the account alias can hold 30 signs and it does not work with free text invoices.

I think using account alias cannot be used as a replacement for translations especially when it comes to getting data / reports out of d365fo.

Can you elaborate? What do you mean with the description? Is it the ledger account name in another language or a voucher transaction text in multiple languages? I've seen customizations in the past for both these options.

Hi all,

Thanks for your responses. What I tried to ask though was how many alias can I have an unlimited number of alias created?? Not the number of characters that I can use in each alias but the number of different alias that I can create.

By description I mean that if a main account in English is named "salaries" I want to be able that someone who searches "paypeople" for example, can find that account. I´m not that concerned on reports because the people that read reports speak English. I´m trying to help some people that do not know English or the chart of accounts to enter invoices.

Hi Ramit, I just need to know how many account alias can I create and yes it's to make it easier to people that don't speak english and have to work with a chart of accounts that is in english. thanks!

Hi CapsLock,

By alias, are you referring to Name translations in Main accounts? You can add as many languages as you want. When the user preferred language changes, the text for the main account will change as well.

Please check this post. It is related to AX 2012, but the same functionality exists in D365 F&O.

I don't think that it is a good idea to use account alias for translating purposes.

If you have 5 accounts setup in English language and have operations in Germany and France then you would need 10 account alias (assuming that the English speaking colleagues don't use them).

What will you do if findims, account names, etc. change.

This can quickly get into a nightmare in regards to maintaining your CoA, FinDims, Account Structures and Account alias as soon as additional accounts, findims, etc. need to be added.
