Can't delete unposted journal

Hi Brains trust.

This issue has me stumped. I have a big unposted general journal of approx 50k lines that I need to delete. I have tried so many ways but my AX just freezes and nothing gets deleted. I have not been able to put a dent in it for the last 3 days! I have tried:

1) The delete button for the journal - failed

2) Then tried clearing journal lines first - failed

3) tried deleting just one line - failed

4) tried to delete via the back tables - failed

5) tried deleting just one line via back tables - failed

This journal is possessed and would not budge! Please help! The only thing I'm left to try is SQL via DB but I'd rather leave that as a last resort. The journal was loaded via DMF so I checked to see if maybe it was stuck as still processing, but no, it processed fully. Are there any locks that might be stopping me from clearing it? I am not getting any warnings or messages as to why it is not working.

Hi Shristi,

Have you tried using the clean up function that you can find in the periodic GL section under periodic/cleanup/clean up ledger journal?

If this does not help either then get into contact with a technical expert (developer) who should be able helping you getting the journal and the lines removed.

Do you get any feedback or does it just say that it is not allowed?

Do you have a developer present that could check the delete methods on the journal? (or pre-actions)

Is there a user that has opened the journal, then there could be a blocking user?

Hi Shristi,

It could be that after a couple of attempts of deleting this journal the tmp database (in SQL) is getting full which makes every effort after it worthless. Deleting the one line should be your best shot of figuring out how to delete the whole journal, but if this is not possible because the tmp database does not have any space (from the settings or the harddrive itself) you'll keep ketting a frozen Dynamics.

I've been in your situation before and a lot of restarts and trying of different ways of making sure there is enough space and memory solved the problem for me.

Hi Shristi_MP,

Please enable the below feature from Feature Management and try to delete lines from Journal voucher screen. This feature will improve the performance of deleting unposted journal. The feature wad added in Sep 2020 by Microsoft.

Delete Journal Lines.

As I understand it, this issue is related to AX2012, not D365FO ;-)

@Shristi, Did you tried delete journal line option from journal voucher, it should be available in AX 2012 as well.

When you mention that several attempts were failing, can you elaborate if you get error messages and which ones?
