I can answer some of your questions.

    1.  On the GP Financial Statements, if they are GP Reports and not FRx, under your destination settings, where you choose Screen, Printer, or File, you will chose "File" and then pick your type and a path.  When you press the print button, your file will be exported to the path you specified.

    2.  I don't know excel reports very well and I didn''t think they had anything to do with Smartlist.  Form Smartlist, you simply press the excel icon and it exports to excel.  Maybe you can be more specific on the Excel Reports part.

    3.  You can open these files with excel by opening excel and choosing File, Open, or yo ucan right click the file and use "Open With..." and select excel.  Depending on your excel version, you might want to choose "Text To Columns" (2003 it is under Data, or Tools I think).  In 2007 it is under the Data ribbon

I will take #2 for you.

SmartList will export directly to Excel.  If a report is available in a SmartList, that is all you need to do.

You can use the Excel Report Builder to create a SmartList from an Excel Report but you cannot at this point create an Excel Report from a SmartList.  However, you can use the Excel Report Builder to create a new report.  The process is simular to creating a new SmartList.  It is covered in our soon to be released book Customizing GP with The Builders.

Can I ask a question about your reply.  In order to export a SmartList query to Excel, am I required to have Excel running on the Dynamics Server ?  Or, is it dependent on the configuration of our workplace?

If I am using Citrix for all of my users to get to Dynamics, and Dynamics is running on its own server (there are no Dynamics clients), do I need Excel on that server to export a SmartList quey to Excel?

If I am running a client-server configuration (ie..client piece on local desktop, server app on Dynamics Server), would I then only need Excel on local desktop to export SmartList query to Excel.

    Thanks for your help.

First of all, if you can run Dynamics GP you are running the client.  There is NO server component of GP.  The databases are hosted in MS-SQL on a server but the application is totally a client app.  There used to be a "server" install of the client that included utilities for managing the server but it too was technically a client.

Yes, to export data to Excel you need Excel running on the workstation to export from the Dynamics SmartList to Excel on the workstation where you are performing the export to Excel.  You do not need Excel any other place unless you want to use the Dynamics Client on that machine (workstation or server) to export SmartLists to Excel or to read the Excel spreadsheets

    Have a Merry Christmas.
