Hi all,

I'm testing out the new power bi embedded stuff in D 365 Finance. I have setup the power bi integration/configuration, D 365 is able to see my workspace.

However if I try to insert my new modified version I get the below error. What else do I need to do to get this to work? Add a power bi gateway? If that is the case how come I haven't seen this is any of the D 365 documentation... thanks.

Did you use power BI desk top / power Bi portal to design the same ? Did you used standard entity store or custom entity store?

You can navigate to power BI desktop/portal and there check the data set settings .

Hi Saurabh, thanks for your reply, i simply downloaded the practice manager pbix from LCS, opened in power bi desktop, stuck a logo on it and tried to pin it in my analytics tab and got the error you see above. Can you please explain or send link for the additional setup i need? I'm trying to do this on our UAT sandbox environment not 1box dev environment. Thanks! WillWU this looks useful for setup on the 1box dev environments...

    Hi jhowe,

Embedded PowerBI requires F&O development/code deployment, and you have to have pbix files in deployment package.

    Please check:ajit-newdynamicsax.blogspot.com/.../power-bi-how-to-embed-pbix-in-d365fo.html

But I have simply modified an EXISTING out of the box report, and tried to stick it back into an EXISTING workspace?  I'm not trying to create a new one... this is where I'm getting confused... I understand the process for creating a new workspace.

    Hi jhowe,

Yes, you have to add your pbix file to the workspace in DEV environment.

Ok so found the correct process -> create app registration as per docs.microsoft.com/.../configure-power-bi-integration

-> LCS integration needs to be setup in system administration -> system parameters

-> PBIX file needs to be added to your LCS asset library

-> Deploy power bi files needs to be done in system administration -> Deploy Power BI.  You can then add it to workspaces.

    Hi jhowe,

So you are talking about integration with PowerBi.com.

The doc is about integration with PowerBi.com, not embedded PowerBI,reports deployed to PowerBI.com don't touch AxDW.

Embedded reports use AxDW which is constructed form the entity store and refreshed from the entity store.

    Hi Will,

Ok I see I maybe confusing the two, I thought setting up the power bi integration was essential for power bi embedded, but I guess not. Therefore what is the point of the power bi integration as you cannot access AxDB through power bi correct me if i'm wrong?
