Expense Companion Mobile App

I have recently setup everything needed to try out the Dynamics Companion Mobile Expense App as outlined in the "Configure the Microsoft Dynamics AX Environment for companion apps.pdf" but I think I am missing something.  We are using AX 2012 R3.  I am sure that everything is setup as far as the PDF is concerned because when I launch the Expense app on my Windows 8.1 computer, I enter in my domain\username, the password, and the ServiceBus name, I can put the wrong password in and it tells me that it was incorrect.  I put the RIGHT password in and it says UNAUTHORIZED!!!!  If I turn off the Microsoft AX Connector for Mobile Apps service, then try to log into the expense app, it says the server is down so that tells me that is attempting to talk with AX (or at least the connector).  I can also go to the ADFS login webpage and it let's me log in there so it is authenticating against my AD.  Is there something INSIDE AX that needs to be configured?  There is nothing in the PDF about what needs to be done INSIDE AX..  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

You can use a web debugging program like Fiddler to find out about the traffic and all responses you get.

You can also have a look at the event viewers of the machine running the AOS and the AX mobile connector. Try to find related errors.

If you find anything interesting and don't know how to solve, please update this question again.

I have looked at the event viewers on the server that is running the ADFS service, the server that is also running the AX Connector for Mobile Apps (which is installed on the AX 2012 R3 AOS server).  There are NO errors or warnings.  It makes me think that it is working properly and there is a setting or a config inside AX that needs to be configured (like a AX user role or the Azure ServiceBus config in the System Administration area, or something in the AIF config??) since it says "Unauthorized" when I try to log onto the mobile app.  The user that I am logging into the app has no issues creating timesheets and expense reports through the Employee Services Enterprise Portal.  I have downloaded and run Fiddler but am not sure what I am looking for.

I ran Fiddler4, focused the it on the Expense App, then tried to log in using my personal user.  Here is the main screen screenshot:

When I double click on the 401 Error, I see that the "SAML token is invalid".  If this is referring to the entry in the AX Mobile App connector (under the "Thumbprint of X.509 certificate used to sign SAML token"), I got the thumbprint by going to the server that is running my ADFS service, opened the ADFS Manager, expanded Service node, clicked on Certificates, I only have 1 certificate in the "Token-signing" area.  I right clicked the certificate -- View Certificate -- Clicked Detail tab -- clicked Thumbprint -- Copied the string of characters (and spaces) to Notepad -- removed all the spaces -- copied and pasted the string (without spaces) into the Connector's X.509 Thumbprint area and restarted the connector.  Am I getting the thumbprint from the right place?

You had the correct place to get the token. Can you indicate what type of token signing certificate you have installed and used on the ADFS server?

A certificate from a public CA is recommended. However a wildcard certificate will not work. In my experiences a machine specific certificate was the only certificate working.

    Ford_Sopris,

How are the apps going?  Wondering if you ever got them going.

Yup!  And I have installed them for quite a few clients.  They work great.  This is an old post so not sure what I did to fix it but might be able to help if you need it.

Awesome.  Was there anything outside of the white paper (I'm on R2) that you had to do?  I was just looking through the Service Bus on azure and there wasn't much to it on the azure side of things.
