Item substitutions on orders

Hi All,

We have an extensive need for maintaining item substitution logic.  Basically we can allow substitutions based on a table - one product could have multiple other products that could be subbed for it.  I only see a line on the item for one alternate product.

Also we would like to automatically feed in the sub to the order, instead of being prompted to change.  We would also like to notify the customer when we use a sub instead of the originally ordered product - we want to send them a report daily of any subs that we used.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I know of nothing that will exactly meet your requirements.

Instead of Alternative item, you could use Supplementary items. It is not really designed for substitutions, but it does have functionality on the sales order, and you can assign multiple supplementary items to an item.

I can't find the AX 2012 help for this functionality. Try this help from AX 4. msdn.microsoft.com/.../aa550326(v=ax.10).aspx

Related products functionality can also allow you to assign multiple related items to an item, but I don't know of any way to use this on a sales order in standard. Probably the worst fit.

Finally, if you use or enable Call center, you can use Up-sell/Cross-sell. The advantage is that this will pop up for the user, unlike Supplementary items. The downside is there is some retail configuration to do to get Call center to work.
