Configure Default AX 2012 Excel Add-in

We had our Excel Add-in installed by a 3rd party.  It points to the wrong databases - we want to have it point to PROD -but don't want the user to have to keep going into the config every time they use it - because they will forget and/or complain.  Where do I go to change the default config so they no longer have to do this?

1.Open Word, go to the Dynamics AX tab, click the Option button and fill out the Server and Port.

2.Choose the Legal Entity from which data should be retrieved.

Sorry - I must not have explained myself as well as I should have.  That we know to do, but it is showing a default of OLDSERVER, and we want it to default to NEWSERVER.  We don't want the users to have to enter the Config setup and make the changes, we want it always to say NEWSERVER - and let them change it to OLDSERVER if they want, but not default to OLDSERVER.

You just have to openn the AX Configuratiom Utility, click "Connection" tab and change the "Configuration Target" option from "local cliente" to "business Connector:

Now create another configuration pointing to your production server, save the configuration and it is ok!

Try it and tell us if it worked for you!

We had tried it this way earlier on one system and it did not work - so I thought there must be more to it.  Guess there must have been a problem with the system because it works for us now.  Thanks

Hi, although this is an old thread. We are running into the same issue. We have followed the steps to create configuration for business connector target with all proper AOS host and port settings. It appears to work for some users, just not all users. So when user A opens Excel, goes to Dynamics AX tab, clicks Options button, the server populates as AOS1 (and that is the setting in the configuration). When another user B follows exactly same steps his options dialog always defaults to AOS2. This holds true even after the user logs out and back into the system. Any suggestions?

EDIT: I failed to mention that everything is happening on the same hub client computer where all the users RDP into. So the same computer defaults user A to one AOS, and user B to another AOS. How can that be possible? System: AX 2012 R3 CU8

My finding is, the default (Business connector) settings is applied only when the user does not have the Dynamics HKCU settings created. It serves as a default for new users. Once the user had opened the AX / BC, his config is frozen to that.

You need to remove the HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dynamics registry key and start Excel again. The actual BC config (HKLM\....) will be copied for the user and saved in HKCU.

PowerShell script to do that: (must be run under the given user's context):

    PS>

    Set-Location HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\

    Remove-Item -Recurse Dynamics
