change based alerts not working

(0) ShareShare

Good afternoon.

I have a batch job running for 'change based alerts', and want to create an alert for when a Project group is set to 'x'.  The set up appears simple in the 'create alert' box, and I have just one email recipient set up to receive the notification.  The test recipient (myself) has notifications enabled.  All fine other than it does not generate any notifications or pop up when the field is set to 'x'.  There are other alerts running fine (when new GL account is set up etc) but I don't think any change based alerts have ever worked successfully.

Can anyone suggest something that may be missing?

(AX2012R3)

thanks

    Good Morning AXfinance,

You can find some hints on the setup of change based alerts on the following website:

    community.dynamics.com/.../ax-2012-alert-management-part-i-change-based-alerts

    Question:

What do you want to be alerted about?

You mentioned that when the project group is set to x. Do you mean if somebody changes the description of the project group of if sombody changes the project stage?

Would be great if you could clarify.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    Ludwig

    hi Ludwig,

thanks for the link I will have a look.  We have some old Project Groups that should not be used any more but they cannot be deleted as they have history.  Other than adding 'DO NOT USE' to the description/name of them, I just wanted to alert the relevant person that someone has still applied one of these old Project Groups when setting up a project in error so it can be changed to something correct.

    hope this helps explain.

    regards

    AXF

    Hi AXfinance

    Thanks for the update.

The alert will certainly be a good thing informing you that a mistake happened but it won't prevent the mistake.

Given that you have changed the description the problem should never arise but who knows.

To be 100% sure that nobody uses the old group you would need some customization but if you explain people and limit the number of persons who can create projects  an alert should be ok.

    Best regards

    thanks Ludwig,

I checked the stages in the previous link and all appears fine.  I also checked an existing alert (based on changes made to Main accounts in the General Ledger) is working fine still, so the background set up looks ok.  I cannot get any alert to generate at all when the Project Group 'is set to' or when project group is changed even.  I'm wondering if it's a just a case that alerts just don't work in the projects area.

    regards

    AXF

    Hello AXF,

    I created the following alert

    projstage2.png

and after changing the project stage back and forth, I received the following notifications.

    projstage2.png

Do you also see such kind of alerts or are they completely missing?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig,

I spotted the problem after replicating your alert.  My alert rule was accessing the Project Groups table rather than the Projects table which only shows up in the subject line of the alert if you look closely.  You have to be in the Projects list rather than the Project Groups list when creating the rule, even though it still lets you choose 'project group is set to:'xxxx' which doesn't really make sense, anyway it's working now.

    Thank you for your help.
