Debug test environment from Dev Box

Hi,

If I would like to debug TEST environment from a Dev Box (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/dev-itpro/database/dbmovement-scenario-debugdiag), is it a prerequisite that the Dev Box and TEST environment need to be at the same tenant? If it is required at the same tenant, can they be on different LCS projects?

Thanks,

I have the same question (0)

I haven't tried  by myself  connecting dev  box to TEST environment which belongs to different tenant but I have seen in the past somebody asked similar question and the conclusion  of that thread was , it does not work.  You can try both the scenarios  ,

connecting test  and dev which are on the same tenant and then different tenant. If one works and other one doesn't then that means its not supported.

    Hello Yuji,

Two machines residing on different tenants won't work. The tenants need to be the same. Both Development and Test environments should reside in the same Azure tenant. In most of the cases, one LCS project is associated with the same tenant. If you get into the details of the project, you will find the tenant for each of the environments residing in the same project to be the same. This means the Azure tenants (associated with the LCS subscriptions) on which these environments has to be the same too.

As Sukrut mentioned, the answer is no, you can't have Dev and test boxes in different tenants. They have to reside on the same tenant.

    Thanks,

    Hi Yuji,

A small additional note. If you want to debug a certain scenario, you can use Visual Studio on the TEST environment.

You can also copy the database from a production or test instance to your DEV box. To be able to do valid debugging, you need to ensure that the software on the DEV box is the same as the TEST or Production in this scenario. When you have copied the database, you can use the 'admin provisioning tool' to set another user as administrator; also from another tenant.
