Item Attributes - Import (Rapid Start Services)

Hello there

I have a question about the import process of item attributes. In fact, the import process is literally lengthy and quite complicated. I don't have issues with the attributes themselves, but the import of each item attribute, which is stored in item value mapping.

The excel template should provide the table with the ID of the attribute, an the ID of the attribute value which is derived from Item Attribute Value table. There are two cases here, when the attribute is an option, values are predefined in the Item Attribute Value  table, while when it is a text, decimal or integer you have to record a new record with this item attribute value, give it an id and then record it in the item value mapping.

Isn't this crazy !

I have imported more than 5000 items in few minutes, while I have spent more than 2 days till now and item attributes are not imported yet.

Again, please note that my question is not about the item attribute master values, but their associates with the items (item value mapping)

Any alternative and easy solution ?

    You should fill 7505 table

    where

    Table ID = 27

    No = Item No

Item Attribute ID = Atribute ID from 7500 table

Item Attribute Value ID  = Value ID from 7501 table

It basically involve 3 tables that you need to use to import - 7500, 7501 & 7505. I suggest you manually enter a couple of item attributes from client, then open the 3 tables and you should be able to find out how they are related.

What I did was to enter an entry in 7500, then 7501 follow by 7505. They are

7500 ID maps to 7501 "Attribute ID"

7500 ID maps to 7505 "Item Attribute ID"

7501 ID maps to 7505 "Item Attribute Value ID"

7505 "Table ID" should be 27

7501 "Value" is the related info you want to link to the item.

7505 "No." is the field for your item numbers.

I'm sorry, I can't help you by offering a simple solution right now but I wanted to assure you that your post has been read and understood at least by me.

I'm still on 2013 R2 so this isn't relevant right now but I'm expecting to upgrade to 2017 probably in or after April and your post has at least given me something to think about. I've taken a look in the beta/preview version of 2017 that I set up in order to learn about the new features and I agree, it does look more complicated from a RapidStart configuration standpoint than I was expecting.

If anyone has worked out a great method of smoothing the process of populating the data, I'd love to hear about it too.
