Product Configurator

Dear All,

We deliver basically software products and some remote services and support to customers. So we have some product portfolio, but we do some kind of simple product configuration.

However we only have the sales application, meaning we create products, products family etc. But depending on the contract we have different products and prizes.

So based on that we would like to configure the products into the opportunity. We were thinking of a creating product bundle, but that is not flexible.

What would be the recommendation?

1) Use Get products option in an opportunity, from which you select a kind of  opportunity template, which contains the products.

2) Or is there a kind upload tool that you know of.

We don't use dynamics the supply chain tool.or intend to buy this.

So i'm looking for an alternative.

I have the same question (0)

    RE: Product Configurator

I gave up trying to even use standard dynamics quote / products for my organization.  With the complexity of our sales products Dynamics really didn't cut it.

In the end we invested in this solution and www.crm-dynamics.co.uk/.../ and they could not have been more helpful and now we have packages / bundles of products etc.  We had this very same problem where sales people were forgetting to sell the right things with the right products.  We no longer have that problem now with this software.

Thank you for your time and effort to respond, but probably my request is a easier.

    I have three products.

    1) Volkswagen Beatle

    2) Volkswagen Golf

    3) Navigation Software package (license to upload the latest roadmaps).

If I add product Volkswagen Beatle to my quote, then the Navigation Software Package must be added automatically as well. Basically, in this way Sales won't forget to add this Navigation Software package.

So I will have line items Volkswagen Beatle and the Navigation Software Package.

Now Sales decides to give the software package for free, however we don't want Sales to remove that product from the quote, because we still want to see the Navigation Software on our quote, but the amount will be just zero.

If I add Volkswagen Golf there no need to add the Navigation software package, but I could still decide to add it manually.

    RE: Product Configurator

    Hi,

Is it a form of CPQ (configure-price-quote) or are you running more of an add-on style to your products?

    Option A: CPQ

Historically I've used an offline spreadsheet for my CPQ then use write-in products and descriptions. Or use an existing product called "New Mould" for example (I was in the manufacturing sector) and then you write-in the customizations to the product description, and pull the price from your spreadsheet.

    Option B: Product Add Ons

You could create a Product with a base price and then a series of add-ons with smaller prices. You can even use product relationships to make the connection so when creating Product A it lists all the add-ons compatible with it. Then make use of the override price and description fields.

You could use a "template opportunity" from which you "Get Products," but then you'd probably go down the route of Option B right after.

Now that I think of it. Option C: Product Bundles with generic names and use the description field for the specifics.

What do you think? I'm sure we could come up with even more, but when it's all settled my preference is to use what is easiest for your sales reps. Additionally we haven't discussed if you have integrations to Business Central/NAV/FnO, or how you send quotes or generate reports. All of those questions should guide you towards the right choice.

Good luck and let me know if I can provide any more advice (if you found this helpful in the first place lol)

You can use different pricelists which allows you to have different prizes for the same products and services.
