Cleanup User Usage Data?

(0) ShareShare

Hello.

I had a couple of users report issues with overall performance running different tasks. One was doing payment advice while another was generating packing slips. What ended up doing the trick at the end was clearing specific entries in their usage data. Wondering if there are recommended clean up tasks associated with user usage data? Occasionally we have issues which on the surface are fixed when usage data is purged.

Thanks in advance.

You can periodically delete the .auc files from the users profiles and also you can reset the usage data if the issue is with any particular user.

Thanks Rudra. However, I was looking for something more proactive and automated. I guess you could write a script to purge the auc files but as far as resetting usage data it case-by-case so I'm not sure if there's good solution.

I don't think we have any standard automatic process available, which can be used.

I suggest you to create a batch job to do this, and the logic would be to delete the data in SysLastValue table.

I think this is good option to clear usage data.

Thanks Nitesh. Appears that really is the only viable solution. Although it likely will be case-by-case.

yes to automate you can write a .bat file and mapped it to task scheduler to delete the .auc files automatically and to you can right simple job to delete all the values in the syslastvalue table and this table is used for storing the user values.

To find the table you can navigate to AOT-->SystemDocumentation-->Tables-->SysLastValue.

To manually delete the records you can open the above table using the Table browser , then select all delete it.

    RE: Cleanup User Usage Data?

The usage data can contain a lot of user preferences. Form settings, user record templates, saved queries and more are all in this table. It is not a normal procedure to purge this table for one or all users.

Sometimes indeed some stored values can cause problems, but try to locate the issues and delete only those records.

Purging Usage data is like re-installation of your computer. Then you have to do a lot of personal settings again which you wish it remained...

Appreciate the insight Andre. We typically try to narrow down which usage records to delete but occasionally we've had to wipe it all clean. The user is never happy having to rebuilt their customization, and we get an ear-full.

    Hi André,

I do agree with you that resetting the usage data is not a normal procedure.

Our company is running on AX2012 R2 and I'm currently working as a support analyst for our users. I do encounter AX 2012 that is crashing for specific users, and usually it's caused by a personalization that goeas crazy and crashes the system.

I do ask them to reset their usage data or do it myself for them (from the Users options in the Systemen Admin module), but I don't like this option because the users are losing their personal screens; it's causing frustration and loss in productivity to rebuild them.

From what you said, "Sometimes indeed some stored values can cause problems, but try to locate the issues and delete only those records", do you have any cue to locate the issues?

We can go in the "All usage data" tab in the user's options, but the element names there are not always meaningful.

Do you have any other advice?

    Thanks,

    David

    RE: Cleanup User Usage Data?

    Hi David,

The usage data contains technical names and some internal values. This is indeed cumbersome for functional people. Sometimes you have go into the AOT to find possible usage data entries. In such scenarios we usualy delete all entries...
