GLTRX Transactions created for Closed GL Periods

I have a few GLTRX transactions that are being created. I understand the concept, however, I do not understand why they are created for closed periods that go back several years. Is there a flag somewhere to say that they only post for current fiscal year or only open period? I had some to go back all the way to 2015.
