What is the simple or best way to export data to CDS

Helo everyone,

What is the best way to export data from D365 F&O to CDS ? Are we only have the options of Dual Write ? Any other way ?

I tried to look at PowerApps DataFlow it self, but when click the Source, it doesn't have option for D365 F&O.

The connector is available when we add new Connection to D365, why can't we use it with PowerApps DataFlow ?

In current scenario dual write is an option for exporting data to CDS database but it has dependency on D365 apps and its suitable for master and configuration data. If you use that for exporting data then you can use CDS connector to connect to it.

You have a option of using D365 F&O connector to connect to your environment and access entities, remember the connector is premium so there is cost associated with it.

Instead of duplicating all the data, you can also use Virtual Entities in CDS soon:

docs.microsoft.com/.../finance-operations-entities-common-data-service-as-virtual-entities

The preview is planned for release this month.

Hello WWwong,

For connecting from powerApps, did you try searching the source as Dynamics 365 for Fin & Ops

instead of D365 F& O?

Hi all,

Thank you for this great input. So the conclusion here if I'm not mistaken, is if we want to export by mean to have F&O data inside CDS, the option as of now is only Dual Write, is it? beside what we will have for the Virtual Entity soon.

For the Data Connector, yes it is there, but this is to connect and use entity which is the data still inside F&O (that's why it is premium and has a cost in it, just like we pay for the 'road toll" while each resources, F&O and CDS is ours)

Btw, for the PowerApps Dataflow, actually I'm not searching but when we create new data flow in it, we already can see no F&O there, but then I realize this is same thing like Power Query, so what we have to look is the SQL DB instead.

The intention here is actually to have some data like Released products, customer, vendor for my PowerApps learning, it doesn't need to be updated so it is one time only. But anyway I got the picture already.

Virtual entities are definitely going to be helpful when those are available but for now you have to live with what is available.

I agree with Sukrut, using what is current is good should that be needed immediately

if the connection can wait till July 2020 then would be better to leverage virtual entities
