Can't open Budget Plan worksheet in MS Excel

Hello,

I am testing the Budgeting module in AX2012 R3, using the Contoso data. I want to be able to open a budget plan on an excel worksheet, but I am not able to.

I've seen videos and recorded presentations where this is accomplished by clicking the Worksheet button either in All budget plans listing, or in the Budget plan form under Supplemental group. But when I click the button nothing happens at all.

On the more technical part, I have installed MS Project, the Office Add-ins for Dynamics (and so, validating properly the requirements for the components). Also followed the guide to configure inbound integration ports wih Office (here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh433513.aspx) while attempting to create a Template by myself.

What I find very interesting is that under Budget planning configuration, the Budget plan folders look like these:

\\AX2012R2A\BUDGETPLANNING\

\\AX2012R2A\BUDGETPLANNING\PlanningBudgetingForecasting\Opex\

.... and so on.

But I don't seem to be able to find that path, let alone the files under Templates. (such as \\AX2012R2A\BUDGETPLANNING\PlanningBudgetingForecasting\Templates\Planning.xlsx )

And I'm thinking that might be one of the reasons why I can't get it to work, If I try to create a template that will use one of the paths, I get a message: "Folder \\AX2012R2A\BUDGETPLANNING\ does not have file write permissions."

Any Ideas?

    Hi ackzell,

You are telling us you are using Contoso demo data. Is this on a standard demo machine or did you create your own installation?

    Hello André,

Thanks for replying. It is not a demo machine, we installed everything from scratch and imported the data afterwards.

    Hi Axel,

Please grant access to the folder with same account you or admin used to install the AOS or on which aos services are running. Please update with your finding.

    Hi Axel,

As there is a folder called AX2012R2A, I think settings are related to demo data. This is the name of the AX 2012 machine. Please check these settings and probably create your own folder and change the settings accordingly.

    Hola Ackzell,

quisiera saber si has podido resolver el problema de la creación de un template para el plan presupuestario. Ya que hasta el momento no he podido realizarla, he creado un nuevo servicio BudgetPlanOfficeAddinService,(

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/axsupport/archive/2012/09/10/importing-a-budget-via-the-excel-add-in.aspx)

    Tu has tenido surte?!

    Saludos

If you have created a VM from scratch and imported data. You will need to do the following:

    1. Create a folder structure with two folders as follows (recommended, even one is suffice if it is for demo)

    a. C:\BUDGETPLANNING\TEMPLATE

    b. C:\BUDGETPLANNING\WORKBOOK

    2. Right click on the folder and select properties

    a. Select the Sharing tab and click on share

    b. Select Everyone in the list of groups and click on Add

    c. Click Share

    d. Windows will create a Network Path like \\<YOUR MACHINE NAME>\BUDGETPLANNING\TEMPLATE and \\<YOUR MACHINE NAME>\BUDGETPLANNING\WORKBOOK

    3. Add these new folders to your Budget Plan folders

    a. Create/copy your templates  in the TEMPLATE folder

    b. Set you workbook directory in the Budget Planning Process to WORKBOOK folder

The reason we recommend two folders is for security purposes. You should not grant write access TEMPLATE folders to your normal budget users group. They should get Read access on TEMPLATE and RW access to WORKBOOK folder. Administrator should get RW to both.

    Hope this helps.
