Hello David,
It has been half a year since the D365 Layout discontinuation and I would like to know if the basic functions have been incorporated into Guides or if the only way to take advantage of the great potential of Layout is to follow the steps you indicate in your post.
Additionally, is this functionality available in the demo version of Guides?
Thank you!
Hi Leah,
I have followed the steps in the link you sent above to export a 3D model for MS Guides. Do you know if there is a reason for the models to render to grey rather than the colours originally on the model?
I am exporting using Solidworks, tested .PLY, .STL and 3MF
Can I ask why they discontinued this? This was the coolest use of Hololens and would have started multiple companies off this. Seems so silly to stop supporting this.
Hi T_patel, I am a PM on the Guides team, and I was a PM the former Layout product. The closest analog to Layout is to create a guide step with the 3D models you want to place into the environment. You can use multiple steps to represent different layouts, and there are also space planning shapes in the 3D toolkit such as a ruler for estimating lengths. In the meantime, we are evaluating more space planning capabilities in the future. Try simulating a layout with Guides and let me know what you think. I am interested in knowing your requirements in more detail so I can capture for the team.
Hi T_patel,
The document said 'A set of core Layout capabilities will be integrated into Dynamics 365 Guides in future release waves."
