Trial/Developer plans Powerapps/Dynamics/Sharepoint/CDS

Posted on by 35

I am actually a new developer who is trying to learn more about powerapps. I come from a Dynamics CRM (on-premise) background. The kind of sample apps I am developing are very generic simple small scale apps that span across the Dynamics 365 suite to powerapps and even logic apps and sometimes even using Sharepoint as storage so more of a very simple scale versions of real time solutions.

But I am really struggling with licensing here. So basically these apps are only for my learning so I wanted very cheap ideally something free. I got started with 1 month trial of D365 which was really good but then it expired and I couldn’t get to extend it. I was then wrongly advised by the support that I should get PowerApps Community Plan which is free and is ideal for developers like myself but I found out that I can’t use Sharepoint/Dynamics with this plan! So then I was advised to go for Microsoft 365 Developer Program which allows for Sharepoint among other things but that doesn’t allow you to create an environment with a database in CDS which is a prerequisite for installing D365 apps.

I really don’t know what to do now. What do other developers do here? Obviously I am not making a profit here and just trying to learn and play around with things which is something most developers do, is there a cheap/free plan that would be suitable for someone like myself?

You should be able to purchase a single instance of D365 for $95 /month.

If you are already signed up for the Microsoft 365 Developer Program, you should be able to purchase a $95/month D365 license directly through the tenant.

If for some reason you cannot, send me a PM and I can help you.
