Adding columns to many-to-many relationship table

Posted on by 54
I built out a new many-to-many relationship between a contract and manufacturer table, however, a key part of it is having unique discounts on each contract by each manufacturer. Ideally, I would add this column to the relationship table between the 2 but I can't figure out how or where to do that. Does anyone have any insight to this issue? Thanks!

    Hi Partner,
    It's so strange!
It only takes two steps to do that, huh?
    1)Enable 'can have connections' option.
2)Add this table to current app:
For example, i am using sales hub app.
Add this table, then save and publish.
    Test Result:

    Hi Leah,

I have done both of those things, but it still isn't giving me any option to select a manufacturer as the record type for the connection.

    Hi Partner,
As I mentioned in my previous reply, you also need to enable ‘can have connections’ option for your 'Manufacturertable.
And make this 'Manufacturertable is added to the app that you are using.

    Hi Leah,

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I was able to enable connections on both the manufacturer and contract table, but now I'm not sure how to actually connect to the manufacturer records from contracts. When I go to create a new connection, there are only certain record types available and none of them are Manufacturer. Thanks again!

Adding columns to many-to-many relationship table
    Hi CalebG,
Unfortunately, we can't customize this relationship table.
Based on the following documentation said:
With Many-to-many relationships a Relationship (or Intersect) table stores the data that associates the tables. This table has a One-to-many table relationship with both of the related tables and only stores the necessary values to define the relationship.
You can’t add custom columns to a relationship table and it is never visible in the user interface.
    As one workround:
Instead of using the many-to-many relationship directly, use the connection table to concatenate the two tables you need (contract and manufacturer)
--Enable connection for tables you need:
Now, you can add columns you want to the connection table, this table can be editable.

I hope you can mark my answer verified if it is helpful! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
    Regards,
    Leah
