Purpose of a Batch ID on a quote

Hello, this might be a silly question but a user brought it up, what would be the use of a user having his own batch for quotes?

Im aware that it could be helpful when creating a smartlist, for better filtering, but im not aware of any other use, i mean the quotes are not posted in bulk by user.

thanks

A simple use would be to separate quotes by user. Perhaps each user is responsible for his/hers quotes. I am sure there are other reasons. Let's see what comes in.

for smartlist purposes I normally use the user defined, weather it is an order, or a quote, but for sales purposes I personally do no see the use of a Batch ID, unless it is the Cash, and you create a batch for the day so you can post the daily sales paid at the cash in bulk.

I think I'm answering my own question, but I agree, lets see what others have to say.

We don't really use quotes much but they could be used similarly to our order processing where we heavily use/rely on the batch id's to categorize and direct orders to specific Customer Service personnel (groups) or other processes. An example for us would be when a web order comes into our system it is analyzed by SSIS and if meets the right criteria is automatically released to a batch that the warehouse monitors to ship. Another order may be for a customer recently put on credit hold and so it placed into a specific batch that the AR department monitors for that purpose and will change to a different batch when addressed.

Then we implemented SalesPad for our Customer Service department and batches took on an even greater role in that SalesPad uses batches for their workflow to move the documents along all our defined stages. This would apply to any defined stages for quotes as well.

I think batching quotes would work well if a given individual is tasked with reviewing and approving large amounts of quotes all at once. Once all are approved, they can transfer the entire batch of quotes from Quote to Order instead of doing each one individually. Otherwise if needing to just remove a group of quotes either by voiding or deleting, then voiding/deleting is made easier by doing so at the batch level instead of individually one-by-one. Some companies use the actual value of the batch ID for specific purposes as well; for example, the individual who mentioned it by user ID.
