Data Management Import job fails in AX7

Hi,

I am new to AX7 and I’m trying to gain experience using data management as a data migration tool. As a test I am trying to import a GL journal into AX7 but I am not finding it easy.  The steps I've taken are:

  • I created a GL journal of 2 lines which I exported via a data management job using the entity General Journal. I then changed some field values (including omitting the dimensions required for the account so I would get an error) and created an import job using the same entity and that same file.

  • I selected import from menu and the job failed as expected with the error: “Results. The number of dimension values specified in 601505 is different from the number set up in the default format for data entities…………..2 records inserted to staging”.

  • When I selected “View Staging Area” it showed both lines in error with the above message.

  • I edited one of the lines and corrected the account and dimensions, clicked Save and selected “Copy Data to Target” for criteria “rows selected by user” but nothing changed. Both rows were still in staging, with a transfer status of Error although the message area said “No Errors”.

  • I tried the Validate button which I expected would show me what needed fixing but all that happened was that the transfer status changed to validated. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get beyond this point or even what is happening.

  • I've run the import for one row at a time, corrected the account dimensions and everything else I thought of but I get no feedback in any log except that the execution log says "Failed" and the message box in the staging area view says "No errors"

I assumed I would be able to run the job, be told what fields had errors, fix them in the staging area grid, rerun and so on until all the errors were fixed and the log showed success but my problem is that I'm not getting told what failed, so I don't know what to fix.

Can anyone offer a suggestion as to anything obvious that I've missed?  There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of detail around using this tool.

Many thanks

    Hi Nigel,

Try to correct the dimension value in the Source file and re-import the source file via data management -> load data job project and run it.

    Things to recheck

    1. Check the mapping fields after loading GL sample template

    2. Double check whether you have all mandatory fields provided with data

    Regards,

    Bala

    Hi Balakumar,

Yes I did try that but still had trouble! I am now starting with simpler jobs to try and build knowledge. I have created a new CoA and also created and subsequently amended a new product category. So I will keep working in small steps.

    Thanks for your reply

You do know there is a button "open lines in excel"? In the GL journals form. This opens a nice template. The GL lines is a difficult entity. If you want to build experience I suggest that you try another entity.

I wrote a post where I play around with the data entity's if you're interested.

    Hi Rik,

Sorry for late response but I've been away on holiday.

I didn't know about the Open Lines in Excel feature .. I'll check it out. I take your point about GL being tricky! I will experiment with some other entities. I did manage a customer so I'm ok with the general technique.

I'll also check out your post which looks v interesting.

    Thanks a lot

    Hey Nigel,

You need to setup Default dimension format for integrations at GL > Chart of acconts > Dimensions >Financial dimensions for integrating applications. while importing GL journals you need also set the Ledger dimensions format in the same path. Below is an example of how u can set:

If you are giving main account and cost center (For example) then you need to setup default dimensions format as: main account + cost center

.Set up the same for Ledger dimension format.

In the source filed give the account as 601505-<Your CostCenter> and offset account as: <Your offset account>-<costcenter>.

Remember the separator to be a hyphen.

Try this, it may take quite a few tries to achieve this, but definitely achievable.

Thanks for that Ashu .. that's useful information. I did give up on the GL journal but I'll give it another try.

Hey Nigel, have you got through the issue?

Thanks, it worked for me. You had to set the default dimensions for integration applications.

    Hi @Ashu49,

I am using the recurring job to import the journals which are coming through third party application. They are queueing in the recurring job window but the import is failing everytime with error "Pre-processing failed" even after configuring the default dimension for integration. Any pointers on this will be highly appreciated. Please please advise. Many thanks!!
