Multiple TFS-projects associated with the same Ax 2012 instance.

Hi,

I wanted to hear how one would handle the following scenario:


Multiple developers, working on each their own Ax 2012 project (Stored in TFS), but sharing some Ax developer-tools (Stored in TFS) that each developer should be able to modify.

The dev-tools should not be included in the individual projects codebase, as it is dev-only.

 

Is the only option that each developer has a project and dev-tools instance of Ax, and then moves/imports the dev-tools model file to his project instance?

    Yes, you can't hook up one AX instance to two different TFS projects.

    Depending if your dev tools modify some standard objects that may also be touched by your other customizations, you can't really modify them in the same environment in two different models anyway, because of the XPO "interface" with TFS not supporting that.

    Sounds like your dev tools are a totally separate thing anyway, so it's probably not a bad idea to maintain it separately. You could do a nightly build that rebuilds the models and distributes to your different AX instances (potentially installs them automatically).

    I was hoping that I had overlooked something.

    But I’ll do the nightly build to a shared drop-folder.
