CTPWIN32.dll crash when opening a window in GP.

Posted on by 75,730

We have a client who applied the GP 18.3.1200 service pack to a W7 workstation running GP 18.3.1173. As soon as they try to open any window in GP, GP crashes. In the event viewer you will see a .Net FW fatal exception and a reference to CTPWIN32.dll. The really bizarre thing about this is that it only crashes in one company. I have tried to uninstall GP and re-install and that did not help. I did notice in the DU0000020  that prod ID 6499 never got upgraded. I do not think product is used any more. All other workstations are W10. Is W7 the problem here? Is there a fix for this?

Happy New Year to you and your team!!!

The New Year's Eve bunny is bringing this guy a new W10 workstation. Pretty sad considering he owns the place.

Yeah, DB_Upgrade/DU000020 wouldn't do much in this case, even though Dynamics GP application does look at DU000020 when it is launched, if there was an issue in the table or databases, we'd see the issue on all installs of Dynamics GP/machines, not just this one.

Other than a regular install not using an installation package, I don't know if we'd have much more unless the Event Viewer or something had more in it.

I don't know that we still see many Windows 7 workstations either, even though GP 18 is supported/compatible with it.

Let us know if you find anything more.

    Thanks

Derek, I had created an install package using the MDGPFALL2020_DVD_ENUS image and dropped the GP 18.3.1200 service pack into its Updates folder and it did not help. It is only this computer. This user can log into any W10 workstation and have no issues and conversely if anyone comes to this computer this problem occurs but only for this company. I could try cleaning up the DU0000020 table and truncating the DU0000030 table but that will most likely only help for future upgrades. I think it is time to dump this W7 workstation.

Dynamics Online Services / 6499, was removed as a product altogether beginning in GP 2018, which is why you may see it showing in DU000020 and DB_Upgrade, but not updated to 18.3 or even 18.0.

For the CTPWIN32.dll, it's an odd issue as this file is a file in the GP directory itself, which I'd normally say the GP code is damaged but with the issue only being in one company, it's a bit more odd, but not outside the realm of possibilities.

Is it just on this one Windows 7 machine you're seeing the issue?

The same users can login to this one problem company from Dynamics GP on other machines?

Is there anything more in Event Viewer that may give more information?

If it is only on this one machine, and the same users can login to the same company from other machines/Dynamics GP instances, then it would seem something environmental to this one machine.

I know you mention you've tried re-installing Dynamics GP. Have you tried downloading a new MDGPFALL2020_DVD_ENUS media and MSP file needed for 18.3.1200 and tried installing with it, to see if that makes a difference?

    Thanks
